Have them big enough anyway, It looks like they'd make them any size.
Solway are a good crowd to deal with but of course Brexit probably has that fu...d up. It only cost us €35 carriage for 20 pens on a pallet plus the lamb hot box.
I think the pen in picture is 5 by 5, heres a solway ad

On the lookout for a hotbox, how did you find the one above wrangler?
Also is a hotbox something worth having around at lambing time?
You'll save a few alright. We had one for years that was just a wooden box with wooden slats and a fan heater blowing hot air in through a hole in the side of box under the slats, it worked the finest, we only bought the solway box latterly. You need a thermometer with them, sometimes you'd think the lamb is too warm and when you'd take his temperature he'd be still cold, it take a good while to get the heat through them....... Also it's not good to tube a lamb that's under 35 degrees, your liable to kill them. We inject glucose solution into the stomach of those ones
I never had much success with the infra red lamp over them
totally agree nevernhad much success with infra red lamp myself
Thanks wrangler, got it sorted yesterday evening.
Vaccine prices have gotten a fair hike.
Was chatting to my vet yesterday and he told me he queried with the rep.
Was told " the farmers had a good year they can afford it, you pass it on"
Having issues here with what i think is lice the past few weeks. Ran through the ewes like wildfire and theyre all scratching. Got them all in today and showered them with dip. Is there another pour on anyone would reccomend? Its depressing seeing them scratching and not thriving.
Could you dip them ? That will definitely work if you could?
why do you think it’s lice & not scab. 2 injections of a cheap bimectin 10 days apart would clear the lice but you need to know that’s what it is. Vet can give you a swab to get a sample taken & send it off
Yeah i think ill ring the vet
They dont seem to have any lesions is why in thinking lice. They are just rubbing and scratching.
two injections of ivomec classic will probally sort it out for you as i say its scab as vet will probally charge you 100 euro to tell you that .you could also power wash them with dip as be less stressfull on them along with ivomec .well that what i do but i am sure some people have a better way to sort it out .best of luck anyway in what you decide
At 2 Euro a pop ..get them into a sheep shower. Make sure they are in it for at least 3 minutes. Would probably do the job and least stress for all.
The ones i brought in got a shot of ivomec classic this evening. Will do everything with it
Is the only way a ram can be eligible for the lowland genotyped ram action if the breeder of the ram is in LambPlus?
I assume that any ram can be genotyped 1,2 or 3 but will the ram only have stars on the replacement or terminal index if the breeder is in LambPlus?
Hi all,
im looking for help regarding feed barriers, the barriers I have are too high and Can’t be lowered due to a poor design so I’m taking out the grinder and welder and I’m going to make them fit !
so my problem now is, what is the best height…some have told me not to lower them because when bedding builds up the ewes can’t feed but at the current height the ewes can’t reach the meal on the ground because their necks are not long enough!
the base board of the barrier is 315mm, and it’s 100mm off the ground so it’s 415mm from ground to where the ewe puts her head out.
does anyone else know the height of their barriers, Thanks
mine is 315 off the ground where the ewe puts her head out, it's a cormac , so theyre very common.
Its high too but any lower is too low to keep back the dung, also you'd be putting meal on top of some silage which'd bring it nearer to the sheep.
see these little adjustable advantage feeders, they'd be great job if they worked , I use advantage feeders out in the field and they work well.

thanks, the company that made them probably went with the 315 but then put a field gate type hanging lug on it which rises it the 100mm and its just too high
i never thought of the advantage feeder for the ewes, it would seriously reduce feed space requirements if it worked
Took the rams away today. All seem to be marked and in good condition, hopefully will get a good scan in a few weeks
Quick query regarding herd number I’ve the garden around the house. Well more like the acre for new stock when they arrive here. Thinking of putting 3or 4 lambs to graze it for a few weeks. Do I need a sheep herd number and is it the same as applying for cattle herd number?
Ring the DVO and they will add flock number to your herd number.
Plus 1 on what white clover says. You will need a flock register book and dispatch book too. Btw don't let them in if you have Apple trees they will eat the bark.
Cheers men .
Is Levafas Diamond safe enough to give ewes both heavily in lamb (2 weeks away) and ewes still with the ram, Ewes due a dose shortly.
personally id leave the near ones until after lambing, but i tend to be over cautious in a lot of things
What is the difference between Ivomec and Ivomec Classic? Seems Ivomec Classic doesn't cover fluke
Are you sure ivomec covers fluke, I don't think so
Ivomec super has a fluke dose added
Meant Ivomec Super Thanks Needed it in a hurry could only get Classic Will have to give a separate fluke dose
Ivomec super has clorsulon, it's only suitable for mature fluke so I wouldn't use for sheep this time of year.
Closamectin injection if it's to be got has closantel the active in flukiver as well as ivomec.
Looks like we're gonna be heavily fined for untagged sheep...... wonder what brought that on
