Is quinn on the radio too?
Why is it that republicans are so quick to defend Quinn? You see it on Twitter - the usual “oh he made mistakes, but what about Dukes” type tweets.
Everyone in this country will be paying for his gambling addiction for years, he tried to hide assets overseas so the Irish State couldn’t get their hands on them, and someone is orchestrating a campaign of intimidation that resulted in an executive being left with life changing injuries.
It is on boards too, can't remember which thread it was, but some poster made an idiotic comment that Dukes was causing almost as much anger as Quinn.
That priest came across as being so concerned and principled that I have no doubt that when the revelations of abuse, cover ups and protection of sex abusers among his fellow priests came to light he considered resigning in protest ,..... for about 10 seconds!
I thought Quinn had gone to ground. Was he on radio this morning?
Definitely an element of truth, this culture exists in parts of Leitrim, West Cavan, much of Monaghan, Louth etc. From general duckin and divin to more serious stuff, all made possible by the proximity of Da Baaawda.
In my personal experience there is also a strong culture of drink driving in these areas so it was no surprise when I read the below article - worst counties for drink driving detections per capita are Monaghan, Cavan and Louth.

You're clutching at straws.
I don't see too many people offering up excuses for Quinn anywhere.
But Dukes' comments are a separate matter and having generated well-warrented offence.
FG and supporters would be wise to put down the pom-poms for a second and repudiate his comments. This one runs deeper than anti-republican internet bunfights.
A party grandee and former party leader should not be making outrageous comments impugning a region of the country like that. It's shameful. And his 'sorry not sorry' performance on Claire Byrne worsens matters.
It is true of border regions generally the world over. Generally known as bandit country.
Have a look at this report.
Dukes looked like hes a fan of botox and fillers
There's omerta, violence and self-dealers in all communites, regions and classes of this country. Do we need reminding of the disturbing main news story of the last couple of weeks?
Dukes would do well to remember that he was appointed to a job whose remit was to clean-up the economic carnage that people he rubbed shoulders with for decades were responsible for. The country was shattered, and it wasn't brickies and truck drivers from the borderlands that did it.
I hope FG have the man-size Kleenex on-order for when they return zero TDs in the border region in the next election.
I think Dukes performance may haunt him forever in the same way as Pee Flynns late late show performance did.
If you knew nothing about the story the last episode was definitely alluding of a connection between Quinn and the attacks.
But it was cleverly done. It showed him crying at the end which brought it back.
Enjoyable programme.
I think you are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 40.
Whilst that area was a bit of an IRA stronghold in the past, this is largely gone. My family had a house in the area from the mid-seventies and I know it very well. Don Tidey spend time there not far at all from our place (which was searched several times when looking for him). It is believed that Shergar is buried close to there. There was plenty of activity during the 70s and 80s. Even John Joe McGirl had a monument erected in Ballinamore in his honour - he is reputed to have used his undertaking business to help conceal munitions for the IRA.
The area is quite nationalist. However, it was also very deprived. While some multi-nationals eventually arrived near Carrick on Shannon or Cavan town, there was bugger all in-between until Quinn came along. There was huge loyalty to him as a result. It is not impossible to see how many people from the area who are nationalist also would have sympathies to Quinn (in the past) and would have defended him. However, one isn't necessarily related to the other.
I'm not sure who on here you think is defending Quinn because of any Nationalist notions though - maybe you can clarify.
it was a sideshow though. He said what plenty of people were thinking. I know that there are many good people from the border areas who have no involvement whatsoever in criminality. But the level of silence in those areas is something else.
I wouldn't have much time for Dukes but that isn't related at all to what the Quinns have done to the area over the last 10-12 years.
He won't be asking her about where she got the money for her gaff that's for sure.
@6: But it was cleverly done. It showed him crying at the end which brought it back.
Crocodile tears!
Can't make out if you are a
1. 100% troll, or
2. Some sad pisshead.
I hope it's the first option.
Nothing more to see here. Story and facts speak for themselves.
The ordinary citizens know Duke's call it right
Imagine using child abuse to protect a chancer like Quinn?
If people from the area took offence at Dukes comments then they need a hard look at themselves for not taking offence at the visible campaign of intimidation against the company & directors in the area that went on for several years. Did they object to the posters and signs? Did they pull them down?
So what. RTE commission programmes from production companies all the time.
There will be zero interest in this series from outside Ireland.
Thats the level of character you are dealing with here.
Vile.
You're making some disturbing leaps there Andy!
Come the general election all FF,SF and the rest have to do is play Dukes arrogance and comments on a loop and that's it, no FG candidate will get In.
How do you know?
Whatabouttery isn’t an original angle
Bar the Protestant vote which Heather Humphries harvests, the kind of people put out by Alan Dukes wouldn’t vote for FG anyway
That’s your game. At least have the decency to own it.
Did the priest say anything that was untrue?
I think you'd be surprised comments like these do to a party when they don't distance themselves from them. This is a former party leader and still a behind-the-scenes soothsayer.
FG supporters in walking themselves off the end of the pier shocka.
It'll be a long-lonely night in the border count centres for FG candidates. Humphreys doesn't rely on a Protestant vote btw. There isn't enough of them to go around.
Interesting to see that the Quinns still hold some sway & sympathy in the border community up there. There'll be a lot of water under the bridge yet, before we ever have any sort of normal state that encompasses all the counties of Ireland. A lot of water.
