Seeing as Elton has now rescheduled his Dublin gigs, might be useful to start a 2023 thread as others might start popping up.

Why would you have the weekend in a stadium when the vast vast majority of people going will be standing?

Why would you play the RDS when you can sell more tickets to Marlay.
In a stadium you have better facilities and viewpoints 80% of the time. Prices also not much different

On the contrary lad, you're absolute ability to find a negative in everything is impressive, Elvis could come back to life and play your kitchen and you'd be annoyed because it clashed with hollyoaks.

End of the day if mcd/aiken etc think an act can sell out the aviva/Croker they put them in it. They use open field venues more commonly cause these fields can actually accommodate the lower demand for particular acts in this country.
not in the interest of any promoter or artist to be playing a 60,000 stadium and only selling 20 or 30k tickets

I'd much rather see a band in a field than a stadium. Then again there's hardly any acts i like that would come close to playing either!
Multiple reasons.
Alot of people don't like standing for hours on end in a field.
Older people, people with injuries, disabilities, people working coming in late etc.
Families would prefer to be seated together if they have kids.
Seats are usually covered so protected from the elements.
People are closer to the stage on average in a stadium as opposed to a field.
Better facilities in a stadium, toilets, bars, easier access.
There are loads of stadia in Dublin that could hold gigs, Tallaght Stadium being one .
The downside is that the acoustics are often shite in a stadium, which aren’t generally designed for music. I swore I wouldn’t go back to Croker after Springsteen’s last gig there.
Thats quite true.
Sound in Croker and RDS is not good, although the sound for Coldplay in Croke Park was excellent.
So seat's, which I mentioned in my original post, and which in reality won't be an issue for the majority of people going the weekend.
Tallaght stadium would barely hold 6000 for a gig, not sure how viable that'd be.
I will say, for all the negatives of Marlay park, the sound has always been solid, I think it's to do with the way the speakers form a semi circle.

Was buying two standing tickets earlier for my daughter, for The Weeknd, the usual bolicology with collector tickets added by default, took me a few goes to get rid of them,i got there eventually.
Its a total €14.85 extra, for 2 standing tickets with the collector tickets + postage. They must be making a fortune off this default option
They are decent quality tbf but it is a little sneaky to have collectors ticket as the default option (its my opinion OK)
Minus fees tickets are €91 for GA and €111 for gold circle (few other venues are broken into East/West standing)
Not an R&B/rap fan (would he be fully considered that) but I do like the Weeknd and his superbowl show a few years back impressed me. Say I'll get a ticket for this
The Weeknd is not really R&B and certainly not rap.
More pop than anything.
He should put on a good show but its mid week so highly unlikely I will make it.

Rightly so too, they are a load of absolute garbage.
So they'll miss the round of summer camping music festivals once again for 2023.
acts play festivals in cycles. Nature of the beast.
Unlikely, they'll obviously do London, and make up for the cancelled Glasgow gig from the Summer. Then back to the States, band goes on hiatus, Slash goes out on the road with Myles & The Conspirators, after Alter Bridge have racked up some touring in support of Pawns & Kings.
GNR have made some $$ from this 'reunion'
Surely any fan who wants to see them live has/will have the opportunity
That was the main aim, and they've absolutely raked it in. That and Slash & Axl being on friendly terms again after so **** long.
Still no documentary or full pro shot recording which is a little disappointing
Best to have non existent expectations with this band.
