Thread to discuss the football itself.
This is not a thread to discuss the hosting of the competition in Quatar.
You can discuss the hosting in the relevant thread.
Majer makes it 4. Pleased for him. Unselfish by Orsic.
Good performance by Croatia, particularly impressed by Gvardiol, Modric and Kovacic.
There's a stat out there(can't find it) but KDB has won 75% MOTM awards in games he's played for City in the champions leauge since he joined.
Wouldn't pay much notice to that. He got one after the Canada game as well and this is what he said:
Spain vs Germany should be a good game. Germany need a response after the poor opener. I'll go for 2-2.
This Spain side are a joy to watch, a breath of fresh air from their teams over the last 8 years or so. They have all the control of those teams, but now there's a proper willingness to attack as well. The monotonous recycling of possession has been coached out by Enrique it seems.
Never thought I'd find myself supporting them in a tournament again, especially after 2018, but I'd be quite happy for them to go all the way here.
Messi and Ronaldo used get every Ballin D'or even when other players had better seasons. A lot of star power and cult of personality in these awards.
I don't think De Bruyne is a big game chocker by the way just saying MotM is shte.
What a miss by Torres, lucky the flag went up so it wouldn't have counted.
Didnt think there was a CB slower than Harry F'in Maguire but then there's Niklas Sule.
I don't think Germany deserve that goal.
And they don't, it's ruled out for offside.
VAR really kills all the fun doesn't it
Let off I wonder will this wake up spain who have relaxed too much
It was given so quickly I say the ref knew and the linesperson. I am not liking the linesperson not flagging offside when it is obvious
Only saw it it real time but didn’t think Rudiger looked off…..was it obvious?
Looked slightly ahead in real time.
Good game, German attitude is right for once.
Definitely off when the balls kicked.
I see RTE are showing England-Wales Tuesday night. Shame, I think USA-Iran is the more interesting game, since England are basically through and Wales all but eliminated.
In fairness people from the UK are our biggest immigrant group. Same as most English pubs with TVs would show our game over a US game.
Darragh obviously wasn't watching Joanne's half-time show 😬😂
With Stephanie Roche on punditry would you blame him?
USA-Iran probably on the Player or the news channel ?
Why would you mess around like that at the back? You're asking for trouble and Spain nearly paid the price for it. Boot it up the field next time.
There we go. 1-0 Spain. Don't see VAR intervening. Good goal.
Lovely finish from Morata.
Ronnie Whelan is a new level of awfulness tonight from his usual sourness I'm fairly sure every single word out of his mouth has been negative. Everything is poor, a mistake, should do better etc.
What a chance for Musiala. Simon did well.
How did he not play it across for a tap in
I wish there was an option to switch off commentary. Watching RTE but BBC would usually be worse.
Darragh Moloney talking about himself and other RTE employees and how many World Cups he’s been to etc. Shut up FFS.
Spain have no shortage of top keepers
Is that not a peno for handball?
If they give that, it's time to give up watching football.
