Whether its true or not remains to be seen but said it months ago that Lukashenko was playing a dangerous game. Putin has him where he wants them, allowing Russian forces into his country and also being gifted Belarusian hardware. Hollows out their military and makes any take over easier.

The only way anyone is going to see genuine peace out of all of this is if the Russians are defeated to the point where they lose all appetite for expanding their borders/influence via military (mis)adventure. Give them legal claim to anything they have stolen it will merely embolden them to try again. Reward them for what they have done to the Ukrainian public and they’ll do that again in a heartbeat. Ignore their violations all of the rules of war, and expect any conflict with them to be medieval in terms of cruelty.
