No, gas was never a big money spin for Russia, oil is.
Look at the break down of its exports
Losing Gas to Europe it can weather readily enough.
Oil is the Russian economy.
Apparently Russia has been using 1980s era cruise missiles with their nuclear warhead removed and replaced with ballast according to the UK's MOD.
They might just evacuate the casualty to a safe distance first… you know, using some common sense.
Looks like a great development.
Francis, I am trying to make out what your ulterior motive, if any , is . You ARE basing all your calculations on what’s issued in the RU media- totally ‘owned/ controlled by Putin ie those death notices. And you make ABSOLUTLY no comment on the other deaths that are not reported independant of the % of them that are based on the number of death notices. What impression/statement are you trying to make or point that you are attempting to get across.
The "end of the beginning" in Ukraine. Borrowing from Churchills comments after the 2nd battle of El Alamein in 1942.
"Not to worry, chum. We'll very slowly fly you off the battlefield in this absolute bullet magnet"
If Putin felt that the publishing of death notices is a good indicator of losses in the field I am certain that he would take TOTAL control of the numbers published daily. He would haVe to allow a certain number to be published though As the
ublic would be expecting some casualties
I agree.
I just don’t see the ordinary Russian bothered by any of these deaths.
They don’t seem to care like their dear leader.
Considering they have been dumping their dead in landfills in Ukraine it says alot ,they even have mobile creamatoriums to burn the dead so their is nothing to count, Russian military deaths in foreign territory are classified top secret, and Russian media aren't allowed to report on loses either,
We seen it 9 years ago during the original invasion they were driving the dead in truck at night to be dumped in unmarked graves,
They give no care or respect for men and women sent to fight in Life and in Death
How do we know that this is In Mariupol. And how do we know that was the situation before the Special mission was launched in Feb. If it is true then you may not need to go higher than the first floor to accidentally fall out a window - with that high rise being put up so fast one would wonder the quality of the design /materials/workmanship.
And how did the RU get hold of the materials in short time
Irish Gov should visit the scene because it might find the solution to the Irish housing problem
But does body bags really get under Russians skin?
Every war they have fought in the past suggests it doesn’t.
It’s easy to understand how the typical Russian is browbeaten into believing Putin answer his in-house supporters including what HIS Tv and radio stations are pumping out. What really , ultimately, ‘gets under the ‘typical Russians’ skin are BODYBAGS. And then this may lead to ‘an initiative’ that might topple Putin.
so I assume a key objective of Ukr is to maximise the number of bodybags . It makes perfect sense therefor , IMO, to target , in as much as possible RU military stores, equipment, group concentrations, supply lines .
As the saying goes “ killing two birds with the one stone”
I’d assume that The Ukr would have written into their plans for such an attack and would therefor have adequate cover and necessary equipment arranged. Ukr are epseasoned enough to know that the Ru will stop at nothing
Interesting paper on how Russian logistical difficulties were exacerbated by the unrealistic nature of their operational planning that was influenced by the initial setbacks early in the war. Also mentions how successful Ukrainian attacks on their supply chains further degraded their effectiveness. Paper is from last Summer.
They would become Russia's main target, after hospitals
Drone ambulance-
Exactly, and lets what happens when winter really sets in over the next few weeks, hypothermia will kill thousands without bullets and artillery.
Meanwhile the Ukrainans are getting hot tents, extreme cold weather gear and saunas and hot food delivered daily along their defensive lines ,it's a horrible way to go .
The worse place to be in extremely cold weather is a hole dug into the ground it's actually colder than sitting above on the ground,
In bakhmut alone they losing something like a company of men a day which is 150+ men ,and that's only in one town we know they have been trying to get bakhmut for over a month, give or take a thousand men a week, and 4000 a month and that's only in bakhmut.
The lines of contact are over 600km the losses are up there with WW2 they surpassed, Vietnam, Afghanistan (Russian) invasion, and for whatever reason people are down playing the Russians losses while telling us they have "stablised the situation" only to retreat again
They have lost 2900 tanks and 5800 vehicles. So if you, very modestly, assume 1 soldier dies in each of these vehicles you have 8700 dead Russians in vehicle 'accidents' alone. Multiply that by 10 to include artillery etc.
Comrade.....
So this redeploying of the Kherson troop's who were defending are now going to be attacking in the Donbass? Is Putin trying to wipe out all his good troop's before the New year? At this rate we'll be left with an army of 200k Mobik cannon fodder when they mobilise again next year.
Ukraine will happily stay in defensive mode in Donbass for as long as they continue this approach.
Who is supplying these death notices ?
Might give an Indication of the validity of said notice
No point, because nobody will know the exact number, and its to many unknown variables.
This is only for Russian troops thats registred and probably can afford a funeral
I would say the real death toll is alot higher
There is Russian regular troops from all over Russia from different regions, mainly poor regions,,there is wagner group with many russians and foreign mercenaries, there is Chechens who probably do their own register ,if any at all,and there is Russians from the occupied seperatist areas in Ukraine that fights for Russia etc etc
Only success will be that they will go home faster,in a bodybag
Read the rest of the post before going off half cocked.
talking through your hoop Francie.
the bbc is just one estimate, most likely wholly undeer the true number. battle deaths are notoriously hard to estimate, even more so when its an autocratic regime making the claims.
And are losing miserably again
Yes so somewhere in between 54000 and 108000 i would say would be accurate
West didnt invade Ukraine,Russia did
Now they have to pay the price for their incompetence and stupidity
Only one thats prolonging the war,is Putin
A fascinating part for me is that it is clearly not a 'society' or a 'community'. It's an authoritarian dictatorship with the focus on the system.....human beings don't matter a jot (strong echoes of Orwell's 1984 here). Witness how many Russians talk about reclaiming territory and 'protecting the motherland' but never anything about their fellow citizens or human suffering that might be caused. It's quite a cold, brutalised country in many ways.
