Anyone recommend a 3G camera with solar. Need to monitor a remote location and this is only option.
I got the same brand but it has remote 360 view. Wonders of tech to be able to control a camera in the middle of nowhere.

Reolink 3G/4G LTE Outdoor Surveillance Camera 2K 4MP HD with Person/Car Detection, 4G Battery Camera Outdoor with MicroSD and SIM Card Slot, PIR Motion Sensor, 2-Way Audio, Go Plus + Solar Panel https://amzn.eu/d/8QHGa1U
we bought this one. Also bought a memory card, the 3G SIM card we already had.
Is there an option to connect it to the mains electricity? What type did you get and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?
Very happy with the Reolink camera and solar panel.
Easy setup with three sim. Solar keeps battery charged all the time. When video is viewed in high resolution I can read reg numbers on playback at about 12m
Bought the Reolink 4G with solar there on Amazon, interesting there is a €60 off coupon at moment which eases the sting a little
WE have 3 cameras in the farmyard and the IR works well for viewing at night but massive numbers of false triggers.. The one we use as a trigger is as you advised, IR turned off and a PIR light triggers it on movment
For sure, it's a detail that could ruin an idea once the camera would be installed
I've cheap wired cameras here too and while not perfect the IR range is multiples of the battery Reolinks. Yes absolutely setup with with a PIR light could improve them significantly.
Obviously the Reolinks have poor IR in order to conserve battery. I just think it's worth pointing out to someone especially if they are considering replacing another camera system with them as there will likely be a significant difference.
Maybe solar lights on a PIR and turn the IR off? Don't think IR cameras ever work great unless big money is spent.
To be fair they work well for that purpose, I set mine to email still images to me on alarm. Just be careful mounting the solar panel, preferably sheltered from the wind as much as possible. Would be great if night vision was a bit better, if setup beside a light or covering a gate or doorway at short distance it's not so bad, but across open yard won't pickup a lot after dark.
Should do fine for you so, it will send you notifications. I've had magpies, mice, cats, brother-in-law all trigger mine. I set the alarm tone on my phone to something very specific so I'll be able to identify it instantly.
Ahhh I understand... Yea it wouldnt be continuously in use, might look in the odd time but its more of a warning system with option to check when it alarms that we need..
Battery dies quickly if you monitor the feed continueously. They work by PIR and only record for 8 to 30's at a time on detecting movement so not suitable for nonstop remote viewing.
Just that it will use up your battery power faster. The battery capacity in the camera is an issue, a lot of people try a bigger solar panel but that's not the problem.
Why could I not watch it ?
Should be fine unless you start watching it rather than relying on it as an alarm. Think of getting a Reolink Drive as well, if your camera is robbed, so is your recording.
Im only getting 10-14 days charge on a 100Ah battery.. I might try the Reolink and see how it goes..
If your current setup is working well except for the router I'd look at replacing the router. 2 issues I find with the all in ones is nightvision is not as good, due to the energy saving required for small battery/panel, also the panel mounting is too flimsy for any kind of exposed area I've had to go looking for mine a few times after wind, must gunter up a better one .
If the issue with your router is signal/mobile network related a 3G/4G camera is unlikely to be any better.
Reolink
Have a couple on 48 network monitoring a site.
Might need a charge once a week or so this time of year if monitored for long periods.
Currently running a 12v camera and a router of a battery but the router has started to give trouble so I was thinking an all in one purpose built system would work better.
I need to keep an eye on the place and get notified if someone is about. Not here at home as I have wifi on the farm here
Have Reolink GO PT's here. 4G, no power or wifi available. Sim card, solar power seems to do the trick.
It greatly depends on what you expect the camera to do?
I have one of these (well slightly older one). I'm using a €5 a month lycamobie data sim. I had it up and running within half an hour of getting it but had to wait a month for it to arrive fro China :(
I've a couple of Reolink solar cameras, the video quality is ok in day time but night vision is poor enough beyond a few meters. They are the Wifi model but more or less same camera as the 4G one.
If you have lighting in the area they are fine.
If you really need good quality video and night vision then a decent 12V camera with separate battery/solar panel might be a better option but will cost more.
Reolink camera with a 48 network sim works for me. That’s 4g.
Came with solar but I don’t use it. I just bring it in and charge it ever 2-3 weeks depending on usage for me.
Is it for security (as in you want to record) or calving (just view live)?
I bought one but couldn't get it to work with a sim and interface with the mobile network or an email service. It was Chinese. One of the far more expensive US ones might work, though I've had a message from vodafone warning some countries are now closing down all 3G services. i think the US was one of them.
