There is fundamental difference. Russia is TRYING to bomb / freeze the life out of every aspect of Ukr - including the economic base AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT MOVES. Ukr did not ‘invite’ Ru in to level it or for that matter to do anything else to it.
Because of the above Ukr needs to do something to stop it AND to make sure that it is not repeated. One obvious option is to strategically bomb critical parts of Russia be it military installations, gas lines , power lines , major bridges , important manufacturing sites, ports, or whatever.
Any bombing carried out by Ukr on Russian territory would not be for retaliatory reasons BUT to STOP Russians slaughter of everything in Ukr

I do hope that Ukraine gets back all their land, I really do, but history is littered with examples where land grabs by one state off another has ended up badly for those attacked. Finland is a case in point.
