Simple yes no poll. Hoping this poll ends pointless bickering on other threads
all the main parties like FF FG Greens SF Labour Soc Dems PBP Left wing groups are in unison over the current open borders policy. No point writing to TDs in those parties.
because soemone said Irish people never had any involvement in the trade, they did. That is all. I couldn't care less personally.
The only real effort to establish/enable slave trading here was in Belfast was fiercely opposed and stopped by a man,who went onto lead part of 1798 rebellion
That people would try equate Ireland's part in it,with other countries whose initial wealth was built on it,is beyond me,but history isn't taught anywhere near well enough here

Well done to the people of east Wall. Unfortunately it is too late for many towns in the midlands. We have been bombarded over the last 20 years with newcomers. Up 14 percent in the last 6 years alone.
Is it true that O'Gorman admitted no one is being vetted. Someone mentioned drivetime ?
Fraudulent intent when it comes to emigrating to a country is a criminal act , it’s naive to assume these people are entirely innocent of wrongdoing and fraudulent behaviour should be punished
otherwise we have moral hazard
Well to the best of my knowledge I would consider it that Ireland, as a nation, did not have any involvement in it. Individuals who were from here may have been involved in it. But that's not the same thing
The same as we can say Ireland wasn't involved in the Holocaust.....but I'm sure that if you researched enough you would find someone with eligibility for Irish citizenship who participated in it. (Even your man Haw-haw although I think he was born a Yank)
I’ve asked, over the past few weeks a few of the more loud mouthed opponents of democracy, Saoirse McHugh, Nessa Hourihane, Hazel Chu, Gary Gannon, after they’d whinged about meetings set up by “far right” boogeymen for scaremongering and “spreading misinformation”,
1) Why were elected councillors and/or TDs not attending these protests/meetings or setting up their own and explaining everything to the locals and allaying these fears, nipping the “misinformation” in the bud??
and
2) When local politicians do put their name down to attend these meetings to prevent misinformation and allay fears, why do they tweet up a storm and cause a Twitter pile on of abuse towards them??
None have answered.
Immigration has been (incorrectly) devolved from Justice. It was O'Gorman's policy to push for 'own door' accommodation within 4 months and broadcast that policy multi-lingually. He got us into this mess and needs to be held accountable.
How can someone be vetted if they arrive with no official documents, you have to take their word on who they say they are, and where their from
He’s useless regardless.
There's a very small group involved. I assure you that the vast majority of the decent people in Kill have no issue whatsoever with Ukrainians or other refugees coming in.
The so-called "leaders" of this little group were also in Newbridge at protests there.
They do not live nor work in Kill.
My guess is that they were at east wall too.
Donald, I'm speechless. We agree on something!
Right wing nutters will always attend such protests in a vain attempt to rally people to their cause.
This doesn't mean the intent of the protest was based in racism.
The usual suspects here will tell you this was a massive display of goose stepping fascists spitting vitriol at anyone who isn't a white supremacist.
In reality it was a display of Nimbyism which was attended by the usual no hoper far right types that have been getting absolutely nowhere in Ireland for generations.
This wasn't a racist protest, even if racists turned up.
The desperation for a far right movement of substance to emerge in Ireland from people on the left is mind boggling. We don't have a far right movement of any consequence no matter how hard some people seem to be wishing one into existence.
He's losing a pile of votes for the SOC Dems. Thoroughly unlikeable.
Totally. He’s a flash in the pan and will be voted out the next time.
apparently a very snobbish and arrogant man in person.
He comes across as Useless weak and naive.
Does this mean if Scotland became independent they wouldn't have had anything to do with their less salubrious past too?
I don’t think they give a fiddlers about color. It’s protesting due to an influx of human beings into their area. Color is only brought in by those wanting this to be racist. This was more about nimbyism than racism. Yes, they can be linked, but on score of 1-10, this is way down low
That’s a term from the WOKE phrase book for dummies and one of the dopiest ones
No but I’m sure you’re also “racist” for asking the questions
I wish this bollix talk of slavery could be just put to bed. It’s from years and years ago. We are people of today. In the now, the present.
He’s all those things and more. A dreadful condescending obnoxious air head with very very little going on upstairs
No he won’t as Soc Dem voters are pro open borders and sit at the very top of the WOKE agenda tree
The topic is the East Wall protest. Not the history of slavery. Not Kill. Stick to it
The sooner that pack of do nothings are obliterated the better
What were Gary Gannon’s comments today?
All I know is that these kinds of things are great fodder to spur on the hard-right creeps like the National Party and all those who trade on reactionary fear-based politics, and that's a road to hell. The UK has shot itself in the foot economically in a move that was borne, in part, out of a desire to suppress immigration. Not keen to see Ireland follow that example.
The polarisation around it makes it almost impossible to take a rational look at why this migration is happening. It just gets reduced to rabble-rousing soundbites like overly generous welfare systems, all the way to conspiracy theories of shadowy cabals of 'globalists' looking to use migrants as a way of destabilising society for some nefarious, tyrannical reason.
It’s very easy to see by its happening and ordinary citizens don’t want it- certainly not at the levels it’s being permitted. Dismiss it as “far right” etc at your peril. There’s a pushback brewing
How did a failed office landlord get a government contract ? It's as simple as that tbh.
Bus loads of Americans pulled up in front of large building "under the cover of night" all summer long. Unvetted. Non-EU. Locals not consulted. Consuming recourses that could be redirected to the local poor.
Disgraceful. Why no protests?
