War in Europe was something we all thought was consigned to history, Putin had other ideas
Anyone who thought war in Europe was consigned to history has a remedial knowledge of the recent Ukranian situation.
There's at least another year of this ahead of us I'd say. Then real negotiations might be on the horizon as the full impacts are only starting to take hold now.
Doesn't seem as if Ukraine are capable of forcing any Russian collapse. If they can't stop tens of thousands of men crossing a handful of points on the river with the vast majority of their weaponry, what are they actually capable of doing...
Big question is how much equipment will Russia be able to resupply
I have followed the situation for 10 years. Few people actually thought Putin would follow through on an actual Hitler style invasion of the country, even Russian troops and commanders didn't know. It was widely thought he would keep up the technical regional conflict in order to prevent Ukr from joining NATO.
There's a lot of very smart people in the Ukr administration, many who have actually predicted this scenario playing out, but even they expressed surprise the Russians actually proceeded with it (rather than usual the perpetual N Korea style threat bluffs)
The only thing that was surprising is he tried to take the whole country. After moving that amount of equipment and men to the border and seeing the west doing nothing apart from warnings from the US. It was like a green light for Putin.
Yeah, it's still bizarre. It's the equivalent of the Kim dynasty suddenly and actually invading South Korea after years and years of threatening to do so.
Jasus you'll have poor Johnny going screaming over too Farmrambo to call you a moral coward and the need for a nato no fly zone declared on you next, he does consider you worse than any orc with that attitude.
What goes around comes around 😏 😂
Is this a way to treat a prisoner?
Time for talks.
It's a war, atrocities will occur on both sides, it doesn't always mean equally, the Ukrainians so far have shown incredible restraint considering, and with relatively few incidents. The invaders on the other hand has been systematically murdering, torturing and looting.
You wouldn't have a nano-second of sympathy if Russian forces started bombarding your town and killing your family, so spare a thought for the level of restraint required.
Indeed it's time for talks, but Putin doesn't want to talk, he wants to invade. This is his war of choice, he can turn around at any time.
Restraint. The guy has a so called collaborator in a a coffin.
Imo Ukraine will have to negotate ,it looks like the russians are intrenched in the remainder of the east .The russians will just freeze the Ukraine civilans and I dont think Russia are on the losing side yet anyway .Of course flloding the EU with refugees this masterplan by Putin will probably only further push for negotiations by the EU .Look I would hope to be wrong but Russia have a very strong hand
Not condoning however as mentioned this does happen in war. For example, when American soldiers arrived in German concentration camps, and saw the horrors, it's no secret they extrajudicially shot Germans.
In the situation of Ukraine, they are being invaded, their families are being affected and killed. They are the defenders against aggressors. Retribution like this, unfortunately, is going to happen.
There are countless incidents, accounts, footage of Russian soldiers murdering and torturing Ukrainian civilians (and soldiers), so far there are relatively few accounts of Ukrainians carrying out the same activity. It's important to take context into account.
Unfortunately I've noticed there are some individuals who ignore the vast amount of Russian atrocities, yet act up about the relatively few Ukrainian atrocities. Which in itself can be very telling.
The Russians were wrong to invade and have committed several crimes since. However, the longer this war goes on with no diplomatic and peacekeeper intervention the more atrocities we will see on all sides.
CNN had there collar felt by the Ukraine for showing a lad in Kherson doing a nazi salute on top of a car and showing people tied to lampposts there.
You can find isolated incidents, especially where the free press are embedded in Ukraine.
Evidence Wholesale war crimes being committed by Russia getting out. But, Ukraine… 🙄
People thinking Putin is interested in peace are up there with thinking Hitler was a humanitarian… ‘He was a vegetarian, and loved his dog dontcha know’.
🤡🤡🤡
The West will support the defeat of the 21st century Hitler. They are doing it far more cheaply than WW2… Russia is exactly just like Nazi Germany… how can people not see this? Should the Germans have been allowed to take over all Europe… is that some’s logic?
Comparing Putin to Hitler is a bit of a reach. The nazis occupied most of Europe but Putin failed to even take a quarter of the Ukraine.
Both are dictators, both are evil and criminals. Hitler had concentration camps and demonised Jews, the disabled, minority groups within his country even before kicking off a war.
There was murmurs of diplomatic efforts back in April and again in recent weeks. Any effort that sees the war end soon with a return to prewar boundaries would be a good start.
European parliament voted to recognise russia as a state sponsor of terror, a compromise instead of a terrorist state which is what they are.
The point is Putin wont be allowed to become Hitler level, it's not that he wouldn't if allowed. His countrymen (with his direct/indirect sanction) are treating Ukrainian's like the Nazi's treated the jews. Has he been as industrious in the process? -No, but it's not for the trying.
Supposedly 80k of his own people are lost as well. Big loses on both sides. Not to mention the destruction of the Ukrainian infrastructure
Did you really think he's worrying about how many Russian soldiers are being killed.
Your advice is not given in the interests of Ukraine. Given your posting history here your bona fides are suspect.
Putin is on the run, his armies are shambolic, his brutal aerial assault on Ukrainian cities is a sign of desperation, his retreat from Kherson a sign of a serious shortage of artillery ammunition. This is a chance to turn up the heat on him.
A ceasefire now is the last thing Ukraine needs; it would lose momentum and allow Russia time repair it's depleted arsenal and forces.
The thing is Russia can keep the missile strikes on Ukraine for as long as they wish. They will never win the war but can do serious damage to Ukraine infrastructure without risk to their own territory because the west will not risk landing missiles in Russia.
Indeed, but only as long as they have stock, we've seen them already resorting to Iranian drones. They can create their own munitions, but we know production is stymied by the current sanctions, especially for higher tech stuff like cruise missiles. I don't expect this to stop any time soon, but indeed in the long run, supply issues should be an increasing problem.
Also if the Ukrainians can secure increasing amounts of anti-missile and anti-drone armaments, it does mitigate the attacks somewhat.
And especially if they get better air defence systems; that will allow home manufacture of munitions with less risk of Russian aerial attacks.
There will come a time though if Russia is beaten back to their borders (which it looks like will happen given the new weapons arriving in Ukraine and the Rashist forces digging defences on the Ukraine/Russian international border proper) if the mindless bombardment still continues. Then the international community will have to look at attacking the launching sites in Russia.
Withdrawing from Kherson was a smart move by Russia. Unfortunately they're not on the run and far from it. They still hold a huge part of Ukraine and will surely be learning from there mistakes.
So my advice to try and stop the war return to pre war borders and prevent further casualties is not in the Ukraines interest?
Every day we are hearing of further casualties, destruction and migration . If you were over there would you have the same opinion?
The latest tactic of taking out power will see many more refugees.
He should be. Given those kind of numbers how long before a public uprising?
Ireland should send weapons, rather than let them go past their use by date on shelves in some warehouse.
Have you been following what's taking place in Bakmut, their using ww2 tactics using mobilized men as cannon fodder
Both sides are using pretty much the same tactics Russia is meant to have the edge in drone jamming systems In that video their making themselves an easy target with so many in the same big hole.
