We need a night of hard frost.
Yep, seems to be the towbar
What do you mean?
There was a chance, a slight chance the Irish MY RWD’s were coming from Berlin with the BYD battery pack.
Exactly
I think I'd prefer the extra 15 kms of (WLTP) range over the 5 watt hours saving per km. The biggest beneficiary of the BYD battery pack will be Telsa, not their customers.
The safety of the BYD battery was interesting though.
Piercing tests and the heat at which it reaches is significantly lower than any other battery and thus reduces the fire risk!
I dont know what a tracker mortgage is
Is BYD the name of the company that make LFP? And this LFP is more desirable? How come?
Yes, BYD is the manufacturer.
They are safer, Less prone to fire, exploding and reduced heat if they are punctured.
"BYD implements its 26 years of experience in battery development to come up with this innovative technology. It has been using the Blade battery in its electric cars since last year (2021). The cells of this battery are large in size having a higher capacity than the regular cells. LFP cells, in general, don’t produce oxygen as the by-product of the reaction making them much safer and fireproof.
The battery cells are arranged in such a way that it creates a mechanical disconnect between the cells so that even in case of an emergency or unfortunate scenario, the cells don’t propagate fire. There is no need to create modules for cells making the battery packaging efficient. "
Penetration Test
A significant testament to the safety of the Blade battery could be established using the Nail Penetration Test, which is the standard test to determine to quality, safety and strength of a battery. As the name suggests, a nail is penetrated through the surface of the battery. In this test, it was recorded that the battery neither emitted neither smoke, nor fire, and the surface temperature only reached 30 to 60-degree Celsius.
The regular LFP battery, in the same test, reached temperatures upto 200 to 400-degree Celsius but didn’t catch fire. Under extreme test conditions, like being crushed, bent, heated in a furnace at 300-degree Celsius and overcharge by 260%, didn’t cause the battery to catch fire.
Many major carmakers in the world are approaching BYD to use the Blade Battery in their cars to enjoy the price benefits associated with it. More importantly, the safety and recycling nature of these cells makes it an enticing proposition for the mass-market entry-level electric cars in various global markets. Hence, Tesla and BYD Blade battery setups make for an enticing proposition with distinct pros and cons.
You'll be happy to know that the drivers seat in the M3 has been the only car I found genuinely comfortable, as I have a previous back injury and chronic pain. I expect the MY will do similar for you, as the lumbar support is very adjustable and the car remembers where you have set it. Also the easy entry/exit is just great. Best car I have ever owned.
Guys. Anyone has or knows the tesla wall charger? Is it smart? Ie what features does it have? Timed charging?
do i need to buy a mobile charger separately?
Use the cars timer. The Tesla wall charger is middle of the road with regards to being a smart charger. The mobile charger came with the September deliveries and should arrive with the next batch too.
It’s not smart. It’s a dumb MF!
But you can do the timing from the car or your app. Control the speed of charge and the % of charge, all from the app.
What smart features do you want? Load sharing, Solar PV Integration?
Hasn't the lumbar support already been removed on MY/M3 since mid this year?
I think it has been removed on 2022 y,s
Anything smart, i dont know what features i could have. I have pv panels at home… im debating whether i should return it and get something else? Or will be ok with that? Plan will be to have a 2nd 3 in 2 years as well
Are they included in the car or need to be bought separately?
No good for your PV. You need a zappi, wallbox or OHME to name but 3.
Is it easy to return i wonder. Anyone wants a charger?
A free charger? 😁
If unopened, you can return depending on when you ordered. Distance selling rules.
Only in the passenger seT as far as I know. My M3 (September collection) has lumbar support. Would love if both seats had it.
The best feature is that it can communicate with the car via the button to unlatch the lock so you don't have to do it manually from your phone or the touchscreen when you want to remove the plug.
Yes but thats 1 feature more than others might have? Im on the fence about getting it.
plan will be to have a 2nd electric but i dont know if it will be tesla, so dont know if can then control charging times
Or if you walk up to the car with your phone key in your pocket, you just touch the charging flap.
So handy. Button not required. Even though I have a Tesla charger at home!
meh, i believe im going to keep it. a zappi is 1000 euros + installation i think, we live in ireland and use the pv panels to power the house, never have enough to give back i suppose, and even in summer, it'll be minimal.
can plug in a cable when i need to charge in future if not a tesla car. im sure at that stage cars will be intelligent enough to set charging times themselves.
Does that unlock the plug from the socket though? I'm always afraid to touch the charging flap when it's open because it looks so fragile.
My 3 does not do that, have to pop the rear left door then touch the charging flap. I find that very simple, charging door stays open while you are plugging in. You do have to remember to close the back door though..
Zappi supplied and fitted is about €1500. Then you get grant so €900.
Wallbox is supplied and fitted for €1199. So €599 after grant.
If you bought your charger direct then if you can get it fitted for less than €600 with all Certs you are good!
I am the same. My excess would never pay for a wallbox or Zappi. I paid €80 for the Tesla charger and it works when needed.
If I hadn’t got the battery or Eddi, I’d have a wallbox.
Actually no, that you mention it once locked in charging I have to open the rear door or unlock with phone when using the chargers in work.
To begin the charge i just touch the area below the port on the flap.
This is why I got the fob, I don't carry my phone always so just hold in the rear of the fob as walking towards the car to lock/unlock the charge port, don't even need to take it out of my pocket
I have a fob too.
It hasn’t left the bedside locker 🤣
Mg phone is my work so it’s with me more than the kids 🤣
