The positioning of the signage on the N8S to N25E movement is really poor. The first gantry is useless and by the time you see the second with relevant information one it's too late.

Full enough drive of the route. The sharp left for traffic exiting tunnel northbound heading for city/Tivoli feels like it will slow traffic. Plenty of lane-changing liable to happen between northbound slip at Mahon and the tunnel.

Loads of traffic missing the N25 slip this morning. Creating chaos on the roundabout.
No way to judge this change until the end of the week and people know what they’re doing.
Backed up in all directions this morning including M8S. Bit of a disaster.
The change was reported on the radio, in the papers, on the electronic signs on the N40, on the new signage and most of all, it was reported to death on the internet via every form of social media imaginable. Yet some people (a lot of people) are scratching their heads this morning. Nothing can be done about those people sadly unless they are strapped to a table and the update water boarded into them.
In last week's newsletter they said they'd monitor and change the light sequencing this week, if needed.
All routes to the interchange pretty goosed at the moment.
M8 South looks better than last week.
It's a bit of a car park this morning.

@namloc1980 - there's definitely a sequencing problem with the lights. The tiny amount of traffic now arriving from the West is being given roughly the same amount of time as the very high volumes from North. That will change over the next couple of days.
What is definitely causing trouble is eastbound cars running the red lights, though.
I drove back from Ringaskiddy to Glounthaune this morning. A journey l would normally do every morning in 35 minutes. It took me an hour and 5 minutes this morning. I think the problem is having one lane approaching the tunnel from the Mahon side to go to the city and East. The volume of traffic is way too heavy.
In the end instead of waiting, and possibly adding another 10/15 minutes to my journey l went around the roundabout into Little Island because l was beginning to lose the will to live.
I understand that people might be a but confused with the new layout but it's the volume of traffic coming into one lane approaching the tunnel is the issue from what l can see.
Maybe a change in the lights sequencing could help.
Traffic isn’t queuing up the M8 near as much as in previous weeks. Nothing close.
That's exactly why they'll need to change the light sequencing as N25 is backed up past Carrigtwohill, Glanmire is gridlocked from Dunkettle RA direction and the N40 was backed up near Kinsale road earlier causing issues coming down Carr's hill.
People are on autopilot on a Monday morning, done the same drive from however many years. You just have to let it play out for a week
Exactly. No judgement can be made of the current situation until drivers understand the current setup. It’s chaos at the moment with 25% (estimate) of drivers in the wrong lane. At a guess, this is reducing capacity from the N40 side by 50%. It’s literally chaos out there.
It’s not. There’s barely 20 cars queuing on the M8 at 10 past 9 which is not the norm.

It was bad at 8:30, though, and there was nearly no queueing of traffic from the West. It looks like there's been some intervention to balance things up.
Been keeping an eye on Google maps this morning and the traffic from M8 south wasn't too bad in comparison to traffic from the other routes.
Yeah M8 was much better this morning. I guess now its a matter of adjusting so that the M8S is almost as bad as it was, to allow more time for the lights coming along N40N. Fingers crossed it'll get better as the week goes on, but I am not looking forward to my commute home from Cork tonight.
No queue at all now at 1030am from any direction. Perhaps they have adjusted a little - I would have expected a short queue, maybe into the tunnel a little as people get used to it.
The only jamup is along the N25W as people put the brakes on when they see the speed van.
Edit: Now we just need a New Little Island Junction to N25E link open, then those of us with no morals can go N40N in the right hand lane, do a loop of Dunkettle, onto Little Island, then use the new bridge and that link to get onto the N25.

The picture from Dunkettle didn’t show how the queue of traffic back up the M8 wasn’t nearly as bad as in previous weeks.
I’ve never seen M8 South do quiet at 9.10 in the morning either.
I've been moaning about the N8S to City flow for literally years on here. I really hope I've been wrong, but the initial reports from people using it yesterday are concerning, to say the least.

Moving this set of traffic lights would allow more throughput on the roundabout I feel.
They could be moved up closer to the N40 northbound junction unless I am missing something obvious.

Interim. The final interchange at the tunnel-mouth will be freeflow. The Little Island West dumbbell interchange will be light-controlled, jus like other junctions on N25.
Yes, various other loops/slips must be done before the lights can be removed, but they will be eventually.
For exit of tunnel to be light free, the following movements need to be removed from the roundabout:
