Disappointed not to see Loughman. He offers mobility and has a good pass. Healy is a 15 minute player at best.
This side really is not what I hoped for. Timoney could have been a good option off the bench. Conan is a fantastic player and he's playing well imo, but we know what he brings.
I would have liked Balacoune to have got into the squad. We know Aki! What more do we need to know about him?
My opinion, this is a missed opportunity. A win will be celebrated of course and we will be in similar circumstances to where we were 4 years ago. World #1 means fcuk all. How we build for the 6nations towards the world cup is what's important.
I'd have gone with a secondary mix with this one. No Beirne or Healy or Aki. I'd have rested Furlong too. Treadwell and Bealham starting and bring T'O'T onto the bench.
Its a very different the Aus team from the squad we played in the 2018 tour.
Only Tupuo, Hooper, Samu & Foley are in from the three games in '18.
12 for Ireland: Healy, Herring, Furlong, Porter, Ryan, Beirne, POM, Conan, Murray, Sexton, Aki, Ringrose

Good to see Petaia back in a match day squad. I wonder where Rennie will use him? Could be a smashing FB at WC.
11.Koribete and 13.Kerevi are the only certainties in that backline.
I'm very confident of Ireland winning this comfortably. Prob misplaced confidence... because I dont know much about this Wallaby side but Ireland are a vastly more experienced and cohesive team.
In this scenario Casey should overtake JGP rather than move Crowley to Leinster
Leinster dominance isnt some kind of set thing going forward.
All it takes is a few things to happen post Sexton. Doak beating out Casey for the 9 spot, post JGP could lead to more ulster players. Crowley at 10 could lead to guys who have cohesion with him at munster getting chances. So Nash, Frisch and Daly get a look in as guys like henshaw and lowe age.
Sexton is the big first domino.
can carbery go back to leinster instead? seems like best scenario all around
Pretty sure JGP can't pass left to right.. that's the reason I'd say.
That’s the one that makes most sense and low key is probably would be fine with munster.
He's not an ambi- passer
Only obvious issue being. Leinster neither want or need him.
Post Sexton… I dont know. They dont seem to rate frawley. That leaves two byrnes.
munster dont need him either unless he wants to move to 15. they arguably didnt need him when he moved either but thats a different story
With Tector and Prendergast coming through. I would take Ross Byrne over Carberry any day of the week.
Selections seem to disagree with you. Though that may change this season.
i would also take RB over him tbh
i know, i suppose it would be more correct to say they shouldnt need him rather than they dont. i wonder how much of it was down to JvG and how much of it was due to IRFU pressure
I don’t rate Tector at all tbh but prendergast maybe.
I think the hidden upside is that if you take Carberry, you get the inside track to the centrally contracted ireland OH. Keeps that salary off your books.
If Bleyendaal had worked out, maybe Munster wouldn't have needed Carbery - but as it transpired, JJ Hanrahan would have been the first choice OH. Unless I'm forgetting someone?
Yeah, they needed Carbery.
bill johnston for one. healy and crowley could have been brought in earlier if needed. keatley was generally playing very well before he left too
and carbery made almost zero difference after his first season, even allowing for his injury problems. was probably JvG's fault as much as it was his but i dont think JC at munster has been a success overall
Bill Johnston? The guy who couldn't get a game at either Munster or Ulster? Really?
Could Healy and Crowley have been brought in earlier? No. Crowley was 18 when Carbery arrived. Carbery then missed 18 months after the last RWC. He wasn't blocking their development at all. They couldn't displace JJ Hanrahan like.
Keatley. Come on.
None of the players you've mentioned are/were remotely good enough. Fingers crossed Crowley delivers but up to this point, Munster have been very lucky to have Carbery.
whoosh?
That’s more theoretical than true. He rarely performed better than Hanrahan did for munster. They could have paid alot less for the same performance.
I think Carberry has been pretty much automatic first choice when fit. Time will tell but Crowley has to push past Healy and I don’t see Healy pushing past Carberry anytime soon. Maybe Crowley will leapfrog both though.
If crowley was behind healy, healy would have started against ulster. That was a massive game.
I think Tector might be a slightly more athletic Ross Byrne. Time will tell with that though. I’m looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.
Carberry wouldn’t be able to play the Leinster style, he would destroy our attack.
johnston had just signed his first pro contract when carbery signed and was 21, he easily could have been the longterm option if carbery wasnt being shoehorned in. he didnt get anywhere with ulster for similar reasons, burns was brought in and was always going to be backed over any other options
keatley was playing very well towards the end of his time in munster. he got the blame for the semi loss against racing but it was far from his fault, much as it wasnt his best game. i think he also suffered from tyler being brought in but thats a different story also. you scoff at the mention of him but in o gara's last season keatley was pushing him close at times
crowley and or healy would have more european gametime if carbery wasnt being pushed straight back into the team anytime he was halfway fit.
they couldnt displace hanrahan? healy should have in 20/21 tbh but JJ put in some great performances in fairness to him and should have been close to an irish squad
munster have been very lucky to have carbery? yeah look at all the silverware hes been responsible for........
without doing anything whatsoever to earn it though, thats the problem
1 game is nowhere near enough of a sample size to indicate anything.
If Johnston was good enough he would have got his chance. The fact that he failed to make it at two provinces isn’t because he was being blocked by inferior players.
yeah sure, being behind two IQ, IRFU-backed 10s wasnt a hindrance at all........
Depends on the game.
Carberry plays better for ireland than munster, i think he’d fit leinster pretty well.
Same could be said for every outhalf in the Ail. Johnston wasn’t behind Carberry or Burns. He was never good enough to be in a position to challenge them. He was third or fourth choice at either province.
This is all wrong.
I'd point out all the errors but what's the point, you just don't like Carbery. Fair enough, just say so.
Munster haven't won silverware because they've had a weak squad and rubbish coaches. There were 7 years between Munster's last trophy and Carbery arriving. Is that his fault too?
