They have changed the system in the UK now, nearly every offer in-store needs the club card, your Irish one doesn't work and your geo locked from using there app. Alcohol offers I used to get are now clubcard deals, your normal 2 for 1 stuff is all clubcard now etc etc. <snip>

Trading hours in Northern Ireland are 1-6 on a Sunday, they are allowed to let people browse from 12:30 so I always use the clubcard on the self scanner go around and do the entire shop and be at the checkout at 12:55 all packed and then out the door at 13:02

I was told today that Tesco Enniskillen would only accept the App today, and not any barcode (incl. Stocard). Anyone hear similar?

I think it can be hit and miss with the check out person you get. For me, one time no bother scanned the qr code photo off my phone, another time wouldn't accept it so I just asked a person in the Q behind me could I use their card and they said no problem.

There is a better way I found to get around this, the self scanners. The scanner to unlock one of these devices will read the QR code picture off your phone. Then just go do your shopping and self scan as you go. Go to that specific check out area, scan the barcode on screen, pay and leave. The only interaction you will have with checkout staff is if they need to remove the security tags off any bottles of spirits.

Not sure but in Newry the last 2 trips I had the cashier was being ultra helpful in showing me how to get extra coupons and money off deals with the app, I assume this wasn't to query if I was using a screengrab of the barcode.

You can use self service, Scan as you shop either. Or tell them your apps keeps crashing - "think i have to update it" and the picture is all you have at the min.

Thanks to all the contributors here. I found the same problem in Tesco and on checking this thread used BLUEYK's suggestion with crinkley's QR code with the self scanners. It was very easy as once the QR code scanned OK to get the self scanner unit (before starting shopping) I knew there would be no more issues later at checkout as the QR code was already scanned in and no longer needed. Self-checkout was then a breeze at the end.

I went to Tesco Newry over Halloween. I just have my UK card number saved on my phone. Not even a QR screenshot. As it was my first time I asked a guy on the way in at a till do they take just the number and he said no problem. When I got to up to different till the cashier just typed it in no questions asked.

The Tesco Clubcard Android app is getting phased out soon to be replaced with Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app, I have a notice on mine to upgrade so I assume in the coming weeks it will at some stage stop working. I installed the new APK and it took the account details from the original app.

To get the app officially can be done easily and this is what worked for me. Android Phones only.

Start a vpn for UK (phone or PC), and set up a new Gmail account (uk.normalemail@gmail.com). Put this account on your android phone and delete the normal Gmail account (doesn't delete any apps or setting, but you will lose contacts stored in this account temporarily). Start VPN on your android phone and set to UK, open the app store. You can then install UK apps not available in Ireland, Tesco Clubcard or best install the new Tesco Groceries app in this case and create your Tesco account. You will need an address for the account and phone number, but hey... there are loads of ways of getting these. :P, I used a relative's in the UK

Once done, put your normal Gmail account back on your phone as default and all previous contacts are re-instated with UK apps still available. Repeat this to update the apps when needed.
