There is a very large amount of leeway given to USMNC They word your contract very vaguely so you could be working anywhere in the company pretty much. The ones I have worked for has some very unusual stuff that I never got asked to do but could have been. So they can say well your working in sales now instead of development. And if you don't like it leave.

You would be very surprised how crafty they are. If your taken on I dunno example phone support that could include an Number of roles in the company anything from customer care to sales to actually technical support. I gave the ludicrous example for affect dev to sales. Extra hours I have not seen they usually put min 25 hours to 48 for example. You could be working 40 8 hours per day. Also In Tech they tend to have clause you may need to work on weekends. You may never work them but is a shock if you have to. One of the companies I worked for got away with working you on bank holidays and giving you a day off.

Lucky I've a good boss. I can pretty much feck off any time as long as nothing important is going on (had to check what the thread tittle was).

A good boss as opposed to corporate bs culture is important. Need to be senior enough one to get your back though. Easier in Ireland. Won't stop redundancies though.

Yeah medium size Irish companies is where it's at tbh. Well the ones that have not drank the American coolaid of management. The USMNC's I worked for some of the Irish managers were hell to work with. Really up in your face about stuff. You know why are you not doing this or that. Then trying to explain I could be If you had not come over. They really took the old micromanagement to far. Some managers transferred from the UK they were way nicer to your face kinda left you to it. Ofc had the knives out if you stepped out of line. They did love the old Bants though Going out on the lash with them was a hoot.

I agree with this, but it’s also the thing that’s going to keep people in jobs especially those with families, mortgages etc, especially in Ireland, people will stop applying for advertised roles because there’s a high chance the offer might be rescinded or six months down the line cut completely, seems to be a lot of talk well in the circles I move anyway of just hanging in where they are because if they want them gone they have to get paid off, also a lot of people I know, me included are on 3 months notice periods that’s a helluva long time, you could have a job offer and then it could be rescinded while you’re serving notice, all the risk is on the employee so even if companies could do with those guys quitting they won’t.

The obvious candidates: healthcare workers in hospitals, nursing homes etc. Particularly those lower down the scale, they do invaluable work, very tough shifts and often poorly paid.
