Are we finally getting off our holes with some defense spending.
It has prompted a good amount of discussion on British radio this morning about NATO not getting pulled in further. A reminder to not get carried away. The overarching theme has that we need to be measured in our response and recognise that though this is a world war for Zelensky, it is not a world war for the rest of us. He, understandably, has an interest in escalating (hence his very quick response last night). It is in our interest to not escalate, and though we should continue to support Ukraine as we have been, the respective positions of NATO and Ukraine on what should be the nature of the military engagement with Russia, and any escalation, are not necessarily aligned. I think this event, and the response to it from the various parties, has been a reminder of that.
I reckon this story about a Ukrainian SAM missile going astray has been concocted to take the political pressure off the Polish government to react to this attack. It created a scenario where NATO could have directly got involved which the US and majority of NATO wouldn't want.
I suspect in the background Ukraine will be getting lots of new toys on the back of this.

These fine distinctions may not matter much to you or to Zelensky, but for those of us who would rather not see direct military confrontation between NATO and Russia they are kind of important...
I don't think there's any reason to think that NATO is somehow faking it that it was a Ukrainian missile.
I also don't think that it will negatively affect support for Ukraine, and we could indeed see more action being taken to stop Russian missile attacks, or at least more reliably defend against them, so that the scenario does not repeat itself.
I'll wait for the full report.

If there is projectiles landing in Poland because of Russian attacks, then Poland are entitled to defend themselves from such attacks.
Part of that defence could be engaging Russian Missiles in Ukraine.

Absolutely, Poland could very well with the agreement of Ukraine place Polish Anti-air units inside Ukraine to protect Poland.

There's a theory mentioned in the comments (probably stolen from somewhere else): That "Kyiv is at 50.4501° N, 30.5234° E, Lyiv is at 49.8397° N, 24.0297° E, the location where the missile hit is near to 50.4501° N, 24.0297° E. How likely is it that somebody in the control room transposed coordinates and sent this into Poland by sheer incompetence".

Even if it was a Ukrainian SAM the only reason it was in the air was because of Russia's aggressive illegal actions.

Who is to blame for the missile hitting Poland yesterday? Its 100% Russia as they are the ones attacking civilian targets requiring missile defence systems to be used in Ukraine. What are Ukraine supposed to do? Not defend themselves?

The House minority leader, Republican Kevin McCarthy, who could become the next speaker of the House, said that though Ukraine was important, there would be no “blank check” if the Republicans controlled Congress.
Anyway there are other military allies where Zelensky has to take elite and public opinion into account. It was (understandable) overreach for him to try to emotionally blackmail NATO into direct intervention on the back of incomplete intel about this incident. I'm sure such a sharp operator realises this in retrospect and will be more circumspect if another such incident arises.
I’m sure the 2 dead polish citizens and their families will take comfort in the fact that Ukraine didn’t mean to kill them.
