A complete nothingburger as predicted by the more astute political observers around here. A lot of time, emotional well-being and energy was spent by certain departed posters trying to claim otherwise. Hope they have moved on.
Damage is done. He will always be Leo the Leak. It wasn't the only leak either.
A nothing burger tbh.
No one will remember this in a years time.
Shortall questioning SIPO's powers
Not related to Varadkar, the currency also had an article about the powers (or lack there of) of SIPO
I feel he will be remembered as another FFG politician who "got away with it".
New Politics.
What did he 'get away' with?
I came across this news story earlier. Nothing surprising. Another government plan that had zero substance.
Scheme branded a 'failure' with just 89 homes retrofitted out of target of 62,500 (irishexaminer.com)
Scheme branded a 'failure' with just 89 homes retrofitted out of target of 62,500.
The Government’s marquee retrofitting scheme “has utterly failed”, with just 89 homes in the entire country completed out of a “pie in the sky” target of 500,000 homes.
Social Democrats energy and climate action spokeswoman Jennifer Whitmore said it is no surprise the scheme is failing, given how it is structured.
“Headline figures mean nothing, delivery is the key and this government simply doesn’t do delivery,” she added.
And more bad news on the FFG legacy in our health system.
Increase in patients spending time on trolleys - INMO (rte.ie)
10,679 patients who were admitted to hospitals in October spent time on a trolley before securing a bed, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said.
The INMO said this was a more than 25% increase on last October, and double the figures for 2020.
Over 393 children spent time on trolleys in October - the worst month for paediatric overcrowding on record according to the INMO.
She said she fundamentally agreed with the Health Information and Quality Authority that keeping sick people on trolleys was "inhumane" and a safety concern.
The law simply deosnt apply to the big shots,we have moved not one iota towards accountability since the days of the maple 10....
god help anyone who points out the country is a corrupt sh1thole on account of this however🤣🤣....
lads thinking an ethics committee lacking remit to investigate serious issues is a success, reminds me of the time trump pointed at it snowing to announce global warming wasn't real🤣🤣
Hard to see the government survive the next 12 months with needing CETA referendum, the greens are openly preparing to walk over it
Is that correct? From what I read, the Court ruled by 6-1 that if a different Act was changed, the ratification would be constitutional. So no need for a referendum, just different legislation.
Tick. Tock. We’ve been hearing that the Government wouldn’t survive X, Y or Z since the coalition was formed. They’re still in power.
Given one coalition party stood on a platform of not ratifying this, and it's membership brought this court challenge
I'm at a loss, how it's perceived they will, simply get away with imposing it into the country here?
FF/FG ARE so incompetent when it comes to Building Houses that they probably couldn't even manage to do so during a game of monopoly
There not incompetent though,
their policies are working exactly as intended, they just don't care about the ordinary person here.
Considering the problems caused by Covid, 20,000 odd houses completed in the last 2 years isn’t bad.
We have been out of lockdown for most of this year and 27k was the target for this year alone and its no where near that and commencements are also way down this year. Its a shockingly bad result for people trying to buy or rent
Its the same with the retrofit plan and target. Utterly meaningless numbers with no substance. We all knew the housing plan would fail spectacularly. Callans Kicks did a great piece on the housing ministers "plans" a few days ago.
The problem with the retrofit is you can go with an SEAI listed provider or one that isn't on the list and the funny thing is the difference in price between providers on the 2 lists is usually the same amount as the grant money, go figure :) its a joke of a scheme.
More to do with the culture of tax evasion in this country than anything else. Bet you the other provider is happy to take cash.
It was only ever setting emselves up for a fall, using commencement figures to underpin their policies success/failure.....costs have spiralled while housing remains a necessity, hence why relying on the market was stupid beyond belief
Anyone involved in building or renovation in the past few years know only too well the problems with supply and cost of materials. But, no doubt that’s the Government’s fault!
That's why you make a plan taking the knowns and risks into account. It's basic project management. The housing plan was based on faulty assumptions and doomed to fail. The housing disaster will get worse and worse. That's the FFG legacy.
Nope not in my experience it wasnt they had no accreditation for SEAI so they could not offer the discount but their price were lower than the companies who had SEAI accreditation so there was little savings even with the grant. The money got gobbled up by the company
Lets be clear a complete stop on building social housing after the 08 crash was whos decision? THE GOVERNMENTS. It wasnt mine or yours. So the situation we see ourselves in is 100% from governments in power from that time. They set the targets for this year and right up till recently they have been still insisting it will be meet. The dogs on the street knew it wasn't going to happen.
How on Earth could anyone have foreseen Covid? Or Ukraine? Ever heard of the best laid plans of mice and men?
Dear oh dear. The housing for all plan was published in September 2021.
Have Ukrainian refugees prevented us building new homes?
You're floundering
They also stopped building over a decade ago :)
The houses are still needed,.....hence why counting private/developer driven commencements was a failed idology- driven metric
We need get on with building as a state, and not be piggybacking on private sector work, surely after 30 odd years,it's time to admit it's a failed policy?
Have they not been in Power since 2011?
