Zelensky lays out the "peace formula" for ending the war
1. Full withdrawal of all Russian troops
2. Full restoration of Ukraine sovereign terrority
Well, from Russia you could thumb a lift into Belarus, but getting from there into Ukraine could be tricky.
Heavy explosions were reported in Hola Prystan
Kinburn must be under pressure

Q. Discuss the migration pattern of Russian forces eastwards. (100marks)

And unfortunately some of those spots looked like non tourist spots even before the war. Maruipol had big issues with pollution due to the steelworks.
I always wanted to visited Pripyat and Chernobyl for years, it’s top of my list but just could never get it out of the planning phase with people and work etc.
We had our eye on flights to Kiev just a week before the invasion! Flights will be cheap I said, he’ll never invade!
Wonder how long it’s going to be before I do actually get my chance…
I think that the whole point is that while the western world has advanced from this stage in evolution, Russia has not.
My point is that Russia is still stuck in the dubious standards and ethical practices the West moved on from a century ago. Comparing Russia's conscription laws today to the UK's during The Great War and sayin "well, the west was just as bad" isn't a gotcha at all.
You know if nothing else this conflict has been a real education in the Geography of Ukraine. Prior to 2014 the only cities I had heard of were Kyiv and places like Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk that had football teams that played in Europe and Odessa, Lviv and Pripyat that were well known in their own rights. Then in 2014 I learned the names Sevastapol, Simferopol, Mariupol and Luhansk for the first time.
This year though there have been so many more new names: Kherson, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Melitopol, Severodonetsk etc etc
Some day this will all be over but those names will be lodged in my brain for years to come. I hope that some day I can visit some of them.
Look, I accept that is is unlikely that there are many Economic migrants into Russia at the present time, as opposed to the Irish flow to the US 100 years ago.
But I was just making the point in response to someone else's suggestion that Russia forcing foreign nationals to fight in Ukraine may be illegal and contemplating that it mightn't be anymore morally questionable as the methods that have been utilised by other countries in the past to swell their military ranks during a conflict.
The Vietnam draft didn't exactly cover the US in glory either especially in the way it was skewed to excuse some of the more privililaged and well heeled (bone spurs and all!!!)
There's a scene as well in the movie Gangs of New York where Irish immigrants are literally coming off ships from Ireland and being press-ganged into the Union army to go and fight in the Civil War. Obviously that's just a movie but I'm sure there was a grain of truth in it.
Comparing the UK/US conscription practices 100 years ago to Russia's today says it all, really.
Nonsense
.
I don't think it's a big shift. Turkey basically have a zero tolerance for any support or recognition for the Kurds, inside or outside of their borders, and this is a reaction to US support for Kurds in Syria. Turkey demanded concessions in this area from Finland and Sweden when they applied for NATO membership during the summer.
I would say volunteering is stretching it considering the choice of options some of them were given. But I guess it's semantics really. Nonetheless a very fine line between both. Hearing lots of discussions in last few days about Irishmen than left Ireland for the US in the 1914-1917 period to avoid the expectation of conscription into the British army, and instead found themselves drafted (or "compelled") into the USA army and shipped back to Europe in 1917 or 1918. My grand uncle was one of them. He survived.
Equally plenty of Irish men that fought (and a good few that died) in Korea and Vietnam and The Middle east because joining the military was the only way they could afford to get a college education in the US. Might not be deemed conscription, but economic compulsion isn't far off the same thing. Just saying...
It's amazing how many people don't even consider that option. It's the quickest option and only requires 1 side to do it. No bilateral agreement required etc...
I swear people think the day the war ends, Nord stream 1 will magically repair itself, crops will grow and disarm landmines and imaginary tractors can plow the fields of magical crops that grew without being sown.
They joined the US military of their own free will they weren't mercenaries
Every day since the Uks recaptured Kherson, they've been targeting places further south, closer to Crimea, presumably with HIMARS

I wonder is that a, "hello, look how far we can reach now" strategy or is it related to the Kinburn rumours. There aren't many explosions closer to the left bank. Perhaps reports are being suppressed, because otherwise one would expect more artillery activity in that area if they had pushed across the river.
This is one of the better Twitter overviews of Kinburn that I've found, objective, gives a nice history and tweet 11 of the thread was something I haven't seen before.
If only there was a way to immediately stop the war and enable more farming in Ukraine to resume….maybe like the Russians in Ukraine going back to their own country.
Saw this today
that seems a very big shift by turkey.
You've a pretty solipsistic view. UN keeps warning about famine globally due to Ukraine war.
You'd think they'd just give up. May even have managed to thank their own post?
Volunteering is not conscription.
Indeed. Who cares about brutal wars of aggression and conquest on the periphery of Europe if it means the living standards of westerners drops by about 2 percent and they maybe have to forego that trip to Qatar to watch the world cup because energy bills are high? This is the true definition of suffering.
Immigrants, not holidaymakers.
Just thinking of all the Irish emigrants that fought in the American civil war and WW1 and 2 and Korea and Vietnam and the Gulf/Afghanistan?
Do they still use them ? I know they used to use magnetic ones but Mine sweepers went to fiberglass so probably ?
Wouldnt be the least surprised if some paddies were involved in that hedgehog supplying malarky....
Speaking about " The Law" in the context of Putin's Russia, is a misnomer, for sure!!! (Unless of course when it suits him) But Putin would not be the first to do this, the UK used to use a system called " Press Gang" where a party from the navy would tour the city picking up anyone they found, and "Pressing" them into the Navy. Drunken revelers were a favorite target.
First to go normally kill the witness then kill the guys who do the deed. Like in the case of MH17 lads were well dead that fired the shot.
