I know, it's just an example. Personally I would have better fish to fry than make authentic pancetta!
I'm afraid that you are wrong about this. Con is right.
Sliced and chopped pork belly will just be, well, pork. It won't taste like bacon, at all. Nothing wrong with fried belly pork as long as you aren't looking for fried belly bacon.
Pancetta is made from pork belly but it is cured. Similar to the way rashers are cured here.
You could buy a joint of belly/streaky bacon (cured) and chop that up.
Salted and dried or smoked taken for granted for pancetta.
I'm confused now.
Weren't you planning on substituting pancetta with pork belly?
Also you claimed that the recipe suggested to you was heavily salted and spiced when it was just a recipe for pancetta.
They had these unreal Ehrmanm protein mousses in Aldi recently but they seem to have been a one off? The tag is gone from the fridge now I think.
Wish they had never introduced them if they were going to take them away again straight away! The trauma 😪
I see the Aldi Specially Selected range did well at the recent Blas na Heireann awards. It's always a good guide for finding good products. I'll try their Barm Brack produced by Stapletons that won silver tomorrow.
They are in my local at the moment. They've gotten really popular due to people promoting them on Tiktok and the like so they sell out super quickly. You have to buy a few at a time.
Saw them this afternoon in my local Aldi…
Seems like any food with ‘Protein’ in the description is just an excuse to triple the price. 🙄
Balls!!
But I’m not wrong…….😋
Moser Roth Belgian Dark Chocolate Flaked Truffles 200g €2.99 https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/p-belgian-dark-chocolate-flaked-truffles-200g-moser-roth/4088600535562 very nice. Hard not to eat them all after opening.
I must be an advertisers dream as saw a review on Facebook and link to Irish times reviewing the Buillin Blasta Smoked Onion Mayo in Aldi.
No cheap at €3.79 for a jar but oh my word it’s epic, 3 more jars in reserve now.
I live near builin blasta abd it’s actually cheaper in Aldi than there! Yeah it’s delicious 😋
Just got a jar of this today for the chicken burgers tonight, it's gorgeous, well worth it 👌
I see (in my local anyway) they are doing a uniform 50% off on all their semolina corner stuff. It's not in a corner anymore but spread around with the regular stock.
Better idea in my opinion as it stops people (including myself) grabbing things with the 75% sticker that they will never use.
Has anyone bought the Brannan's Chicken pieces lately? I used to get the tikka one and was lovely but my god the quality has fallen through the floor. The meat is slimy and horrible and seasoning not the same, not at all what it used to be.
Not since I've found bones in a couple of packets. I get the Lidl version now and no bones found, prefer the quality and texture, plain chicken rather than the flavoured versions.
The Cajun chicken breast slices are still edible. Gone up a fair bit in price though. https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/ALDIIE/p-cajun-chicken-breast-carved-150g-brannans/4088600118628
I used to get them a bit but recently have just been buying a full chicken and using the legs and thighs for sandwiches or salads. Its nice to have some crispy skin in there as well.
Yeah, I only get them when I know I might be tight for time making something for lunch some weeks because they have a good 10+ days use by date so handy to just sit in the fridge.
Does Aldi do drinking chocolate ?
The cracked black pepper and spring onion sausages are delicious
There were supposed to be 200ml bottles of Port in as part of Christmas range. I saw small Sherry bottles last time I was in but no sign of Port. Just wondering if anyone has seen them on shelves?
They do indeed - https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/ALDIIE/p-instant-hot-chocolate-drink-400g-choceur/4088600291666
They do an unsweetened cocoa powder in a red tub which makes the most delicious hot chocolate....
Look in the baking section.
eta - looks like they've updated the packaging...
They used to do a cardboard drum of drinking chocolate that was close to 'Green and Black' but not seen in couple of years. I now get the basic cocoa powder and add a small amount of sugar, mix well before adding hot milk.. just the same!
Annoying over the last few weeks that stuff I'd have got regularly seems to have disappeared. Like the cully and sully knock off soup and the Carlos mini garlic pizza. There was a few other things aswell. Is it just my local or is that in all of them? I suspect it was to make way for Christmas stuff.
In Tesco you can get the Avonmore soup for €2 and the roast chicken one is very nice actually so a good alternative to the Aldi one and one I'll get again I think.
I've seen those things in mine. Have noticed a couple of things missing myself but think it's supply issues rather than Christmas push-out.
Ah ok , I'll check the other Aldi in town when I'm passing as I do really like the wee garlic pizzas, and they are really the only junk food I eat regularly.
