This clown needs to have a serious look at his moral compass. Openly supports a convicted sex offender & tells his "flock" that consensual of sex between two men and two women is sinful. "That is a mortal sin and people don’t seem to realise it".

I go to mass most mornings and the Catholic Church is a much nicer organisation now. Who is anyone to judge anyone? That gobshite Fr. Sherry is an embarrassment to al the decent priests out there and they are in the majority. People won’t to listen to sh1t anymore after what has happened in the past.
I haven't been to mass in ages but I suppose when I used go I spent most of my time dozing, on my phone or something else.

seriously though, you couldn’t miss the sh1te quoted in the article - and he had the audacity to challenge the poor people leaving the church - there are still some great priests out there doing great work in obviously difficult times- I do feel for them but this pillock isn’t one of them- I’m not surprised people are walking out and what’s more they won’t be back either- church has made so many monumental mistakes but it still insists it’s the people who are wrong not the church-
Catholicism is also against euthanasia- so why is it practicing this against itself every Sunday with sermons like this one?
This would have really angered me as a gay man 20 or so years ago, but now it just makes me sad.
The Catholic Church is a completely spent force in most of Ireland, but it still holds sway in many rural areas.
The saddest aspect in all of this is how packed the church still is on Sundays in places like Listowel. Too many people in this country clinging to a medieval ideology and still very afraid to think for themselves.

It’s an extraordinary sermon for the 21st century Ireland- hell and damnation sermons haven’t really been heard in Ireland in a few decades now- however, it’s probably a common occurrence in certain churches in America and he spent most of his career there - so I’m not surprised that he’s bringing hell and damnation with him back to Ireland.
Well done those who left the church that morning- for those who still have faith and go to mass, it must be soul destroying to hear such jibberish - Catholic masses have mainly focused on love and forgiveness in recent years and not this boll1x

Yeah, I was in Listowel soon after that happened and it was pure snobbery. Rural country lad against townie girl, she was shunned and abused after the sex offender Danny Foley was gaoled. His brother spoke out and called her a "so called victim". Unbelievable stuff.

But in reality, his views do represent the Christin position, albeit he said things a lot more bluntly than members of the church tend to do nowadays.

From an anatomical perspective, it's reasonable to argue that the rapist's abusive organ (it's not a bone) wasn't "in his body"
Not only did he praise the sex offender, he disrespected the victim on that case
During the hearing Fr Sean Sheehy, parish priest of Castlegregory, Co Kerry, who knew the accused since he was a teenager, said Foley had always struck him as having the highest respect for women and there wasn’t an abusive bone in his body.
Is it known why the judge had an issue with the character witness statement that he gave? If he only had positive personal experience with Foley he should be allowed to provide it without criticism.
It beggars belief how people still darken their doors.
