Attempting to destroy famous paintings because fossil fuels

Last week it was tomato soup thrown at Van Gogh's Sunflowers this week mashed potato at Claude Monet’s Les Meules..

But why tho? I found this tweet of theirs absolutely laughable “If it takes a painting - with #MashedPotatoes or #TomatoSoup thrown at it - to make society remember that the fossil fuel course is killing us all: Then we’ll give you #MashedPotatoes on a painting!”, but all you’ve done is made me think you’re stupid.

But the other thing that’s more confusing to me, they’re not really destroying anything anyway. They didn’t get soup on Sunflowers or Le Meules, at worst they’ve damaged the frames, but the painting is behind glass.

Is this just some mad attention seeking or are they that dumb, they reckon effectively pointless attempts to vandalise very old paintings, somehow raises awareness of climate change and the effects of fossil fuels?

I think all they did was remind us some folks are just plain old stupid. Also they glue their hands to the wall? Jaysus.

Its not just about cars although electrics are still more expensive initially - still - when you add in running costs they are pretty much the same

No one is going to be forced to buy or us electric cars - but shouldnt they be encouraged to switch to electrics when it’s time to get a replacement Remembering that they are cheaper to run but still dearer to buy and so - about the same cost

Another major problem is the production of electricity - this can now be done cheaper using renewables - so shouldnt governments be forced to go in that direction despite the "donations" from petro chemical ind>

The other major reason for all this is that the emmisions from fossil fuels are destroying the planet that we are living on

We also have no mass grid scale storage in this country for when wind output is low to zero in winter when solar will be low also.

So we need fossil fuels until that particular nut is cracked.

Unless of course we go the nuclear route which is essentially banned in Ireland.

These weirdos are funded by such people as the Getty heiress (whose family owes all their wealth to oil even if hypocritically they divested as of present). The painting are protected by screens. No damage except expense to the galleries and wasted money. These idle children of the rich block traffic in places like London as a sort of 'fvck you poors' statement. Their parents can afford those battery cars, for which a fast charge (equivalent of 'getting petrol') is expensive (little cheaper now than for diesel or petrol and takes longer) and the purchase price is forbiddingly high for most except the rich and those careless with money, who finance an expensive depreciating asset (the messed up second hand market for in demand cars does alter that a little) with no benefit except keeping up with the Joneses, with the added benefit for fortunate sons and daughters that people who work will be less and less able to afford to drive. The envisaged ban on 'fossil fuel' vehicles is about confining private transport to a few. It does not relate to billionaires who travel in polluting private jets from one conference to another, telling other people to tighten their belts.

I really don't get this kind of attitude. If you believe man made climate change is a thing, you'll see that it's going to completely f**k everything up in the coming years and decades. Protesting against the British government to move away from fossil fuels seems pretty reasonable to me. Not only for the pollution it causes but also the fact that you become dependent on these fuels from other countries, despot countries like Saudi and Russia. I mean we're not even mitigating for what a changed climate may bring, governments are doing absolutely nothing, it's just crazy.

But I believe that you are lying - None of the activists were telling people to not eat meat and munching on burgers - none of the activists were telling people not to take flights or go on holidays.

More than likely what has happened is that you PRESUMED that they were communicating these messages , Just like you PRESUMED that the protest was about air polution and areoplanes

As I described arerlier we are, for now held hostage by the fact that we have become very dependent on Fossel Fuels, we need to use them for now in order to get around - This does not mean that we are not allowed to point out that they are destroying the plannet or criticise them - it means that we are living in the world , surviving and trying to make the world a better place by pointing out that we can survive just fine if we transition off fossil fuels - and it would save us money as well because renewables is the cheapest way to make electricity. and it is urgently destroying this planet.

In the meantime I will await your link showing that the you are not a LIAR or en explanation on what you meant

It was this thread. I'm not long out of college. I was a class rep, so was bombarded almost daily with nonsense protest plans and asked to encourage my classmates to "join the fight". I regularly told them in live meetings where to shove their protests and not to waste everyone's precious class time with protests just to give the organisers an inflated sense of self importance. My classmates supported that stance, so nobody was deprived of their time.
