Russia is committing war crimes and atrocities including horrific sexual abuse. Ukraine is not.

Thats a very reasonable theory, but I think there is a simpler one and it fits a pattern. By focusing on the UK, they take away from the credibility of the Ukrainians as a force that is beating them. Our ships were hit because of the UK; our tanks are suffereing because of advanced western weapons; Ukrainian troops are being trained by NATO.
All of it is intended to discredit or distract from Ukrainians and their native millitary capabilities and astounding levels of professionalism, innovation and rapid adaptation in technology and tactics.

Your essential point is the imbalance in the amount of disinformation, propaganda put forward by both sides, that all the info from The Ukr side is true and all from the Ru side is questionable/ false. Such information is to serve a number of specific purposes which are to present the opposition in an unfavourable light, to gain advantage and to wrong foot the opposition. So one has to constantly read between the lines
. I suggest that The Ukr is perfectly entitled to put out as much false info as it can manage and rightly so because it is not the invader, it did not do anything to JUSTIFY the invasion and what Russia is doing to it ,- including to its citizens and assets - is beyond abominable..

Yes, but I did note that it was unconfirmed. The original source was a Ukrainian media outlet, Channel 24, who were obviously happy with their source. On further checking, they then confirmed the original report was false.

I strongly suspect that Putin has been scared sh*tless by the West's willingness to take him literally and prepare/respond appropriately. This, I think, is why he's changed the tune of the nonsense he spouts.
I'm thinking that the Ukrainians have been given a "good to go" signal.

As for the story, not much in it - criminal gangs have illegal weapons, some of which were supposed to be sent to Ukraine. Obviously that was always going to happen.
