For China it is always about business and strategic dominance. They don't give a fiddler's about Russian morals, ambitions, crimes, prestige or conquest plans. They only care about China and Chinese people, their business interests and their access to the raw materials that will grow their economy. China would trust Russia as much as they trust USA but business is business.
...
I spent a lot of the 70s and 80s waiting for WW3 to start. The closest we came was when Rocky beat Drago in Russia. They were livid. Anyway it didn't happen then and it won't happen now.
As my teacher often said, WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones if there is anyone left to fight.
In all fairness, I think when people talk about nuclear war "wiping out the whole planet" and such, they don't literally mean it destroying the actual spinning rock we're all on. They mean the possible devastating effect on majority of human civilization, and our ability to rebuild back to something akin to what it is now in a reasonable period of time. It's a turn of phrase.
Not that I think that nuclear war is a likely outcome of any of this. There's a hell of a lot of way conventional warfare could drag on, spread - or even end - without it becoming nuclear.
Right so every time i watch the news on the TV or listen on the radio i'll just record it because you know everything needs a source or proof.
What a weird corner to paint yourself into over such a pointless argument.
President Steinmeier says Russia's war on Ukraine 'has reduced European security order to rubble,' Germany needs stronger armed forces
You specifically have engaged in repetitive complaints about sources like Twitter and Telegram, with the former of course generally being linked to. Because of this, I stopped providing links, and then guess who complained about there not being links?
If you are going to complain about the sources people use, don't expect links.
It's a little strange they placed their only modern air defence system in Kherson.
You would think it be better placed defending a main city?
I saw something on Telegram where the Ukrainians were extolling very high praise for the Iris-T saying its intercept rate was at least 9 out of 10 targets engaged - 90%.
You are correct, if there is to be a WW3, the cause is more likely to be NATO defending Russia or Taiwan from China. Russia are a busted flush. For 2 decades they have pretended to have an Army and what they did have has been/is being destroyed in Ukraine. They will in the future be totally at the mercy of the will of China and their options will to acquiesce to China or seek NATO protection.
Defend their army and defeat Russia has to be No 1 priority, and where most of the Russian planes are attacking.
Russia is too stupid to realise that every attack on a City a waste of military resources and shall never defeat the Ukrainian's.
Agree. We're a bigger catastrophe for the planet than the nukes would ever be. Unfortunately we'd take a lot of fauna with us.
My beef is with Twitter and the amount of fake links people are posting and then when questioned about those fake links they run away and fail to answer questions. I've no problem with anyone posting information they have heard let's say for instance on Sky or BBC as that's verified newsworthy media. How can someone post a link to something they heard on the radio? Not everyone spends all day long on Twitter.
Nothing like a bank holiday to bring out the under the bridge dweller's
Don't worry, nobody is trying to move in on your turf. Keep manning the gate and everything will fall in line just nicely.
The thread isn’t about you yet you’ve taken up quarter of it over the last few weeks moaning about sources. It really isn’t a big deal to have someone say they saw something on the channel X’s news.
That’s what Russia would like to happen
Civilian casualties reported as result of Russian shelling in Vasylivka and Polohy districts of Zaporizhzhia region
again not much on the ua live map apart from Russian bombing, the main event starts this weekend, Kherson will be a theatre
"Squad" member Ilhan Omar appears to be the latest left-wing Democrat to have "anti-war" protesters interrupt one of her public meetings spouting Russian propaganda.
Nice to see this reaction from her in response:
Especially good to see her call this out, given that she was one of the 30 names on that rescinded statement earlier this week.
If Belarus enter the war we may be seeing more of the cope bucket!
China are a socialist market economy, Russia is an authoritarian capitalist society, the former is a recipe for success economically and socially once the people submit, the latter is a recipe for disaster after disaster socially and economically once the people are apathetic, it would make for a good essay to compare and contrast both
“My own life may be siht but at least I belong to this great nation with a proud and long tradition of subjugating, civilising and benevolently leading lesser peoples”.
You see this kind of attitude between different groups within societies as well, where one deprived social group can accept their lot in life, just so long as an even more marginilised group stays below them in the perceived pecking order.
Two examples:
Thats a bit pedantic in fairness.
The planet is a lump of rock with an atmosphere - so IT can't die but most living things would perish, so compared to pre nuclear apocalypse, afterwards the world would be pretty dead in comparison.
Two questions:
Cope? Coal?
What's Cope?
China is not capitalist due to the fact that capital (rich people) can never rise above the level of the political (socialist) class like in the US (think Musk/Gates), if they try they to step out of line they can get put away for life for going contrary to the political class, in Russia the Oligarchs have at times managed to speak out against the political class and not get put into a gulag in the US they constantly do, this would not happen in China for example Alibaba's Jack Ma appeared to fall out of favour after criticising China's regulators was disappeared for a number of years
China is a socialist country with capitalist tendencies.
Ireland is a capitalist country with socialist tendencies.
It helps the tank crew to 'cope' with a threat.

Ok but that could describe any authoritarian system. Nothing to do with being socialist.
I'd also push back on your assertion that the oligarchs have more freedom in Russian. Mikhail Khodorkovsky was the richest man in Russia and ended up being jailed and exiled for attempting to stick his nose in to politics. They're all fully aware that they can lose it all at any time.
