I also happen to know a few who live here, men and women. Most, who happen to have good English btw, slip into "I don't understand mode" if the war is mentioned. Others shrug their shoulders and more refuse to condemn putin and his actions. I know some who got a few slaps in Nenagh when they arrived at work with"Z" on their van. So yeah **** them and their horrible country.

Best of luck doing that - won't be long before you've sanctioned half the world. At that stage, the sanctions are really on you rather than on everyone else.
True but pretty much all of their existing cashcows especially Europe are lost to them now. Compare the number of trade routes and pipelines running into Europe and the number running to their "friends" in China and India.
North America, Europe and China are the world trade blocks, two are now out of the picture and the third China earns far too much revenue and has far too many connections to the other two to risk losing them by getting too supportive of Russia. EG when Russia's western fleet of airliners was banned from Europe and north America, China agreed with that and banned them too. Russia's "value" to them is tiny by comparison. They're really only of use for cheap gas and especially oil.

They don't look particularly mobile and to date have only been deployed on naval ships. With a range of no more than 5km, you would need quite a few of them to protect a city like Kiev. There might be a case for deploying them at power stations and other high-value targets, but they themselves would get targeted very quickly.

People are saying that the sanctions are not working, they are hurting us more than them, but in reality, that's not true. The sanctions are working at a very high level, and ordinary Russian's are feeling the pain. And so is Putin and his henchmen, scrabbling around looking for cheap weapons and ammunition, recruiting criminals in prisons etc. Putin is reduced to scraping the bottom of the barrel now..

Well I was in a position where I had to keep my mouth shut and shrug my shoulders. Lived in Pilton in Edinburgh during the 90's and it wasn't too friendly towards the Paddy. We have a war raging on the western or eastern front of east and west. But all people can come up with is WW2 type of nonsense.
Just because we have people from Russia living in Ireland, it doesn't mean they should bare the brunt of Putin's unjustified horrific war in Ukraine. What's going on is very serious, but after WW2 all that suspicion and justified resentment gradually faded away. Are we going back to the internment mindset and witch hunts ?
