obviously Boris Johnson would have probably not have gone along with that plan but Mordaunt actually might.
I'd say the promise of a nice cabinet position might make the decision easier. It would help bring her supporters on board too.
I thought think it would need to be one of the big ones to get her to drop out. Home or Foreign I'd guess.
Rishi has won it. Mordaunt concedes.
Harsher sentences for protestors and forget about going back to EU, they're going to make Brexit work.
Kier Starmer really going after Daily Mail Express etc. readers.
He wants harsher sentences for climate protesters but also to put so key ideals of said climate protesters in his manifesto. Its like he thinks he can go for everyone.
Also there is no going back to the EU and I can't understand how people don't see that. What would be the point of him campaigning to.
Of course there's no going back to the EU, for years. I saw it back in 2018/19 where Starmer et al. boxed a weak Corbyn into calling for a 2nd referendum on Brexit and sending him into election oblivion. It was always a tactic and fbpe on twitter are probably in shambles.
Sunak just as robotic as Truss was, maybe he'll be better in the HoC but his first appearance as PM was woeful.
6 seconds of speech, 7 of silence. Creepy.
He's on a hiding to nothing, though I will be fascinated to see what early polls yield. If the "Thank F it's not Johnson" effe t gives him some wriggle room or if it'll be straight into antagonism.
When times get hard I'd say he'll get some abuse for it, even if it was everyone from Cameron onwards creating the conditions that combined with a pandemic and an energy crisis have left things a shambles. If he's seen to be serving the wealthy and leaving the rabble to take the hit he'll deserve it.
Someone really needs to train the Tories in how to finish a speech and walk off a stage.
Nice article in politico.eu on Sunak's (potential) first 100 days as PM. Meeting today with Chaz III and first PMQ's tomorrow.
I agree with the article but it’s daft to say he might get 100 days. I know that sounds like a daft statement to make around a modern British PM, but that was before the political mastermind that was liz truss.
Like the pic of Rees Mogg walking out the door on No 10, hopefully for the last time.
I could easily see him and the millionaire Brexiter PM getting on just fine.
Ah no, Mogg said Sunak was too left wing!!!
Ya I forgot he called him a socialist.
Good grief Braverman is getting another job.
Can Mogg technically resign from a defunct cabinet ?
I wonder does Sunak think that she’ll be a good shield between him and matters immigration. The fall-guy (fall-woman? What’s the feminine of fall-guy?) We all know she’s going to fail in what she’s trying to do, and he can then point to it as being the ERG approach, and in the meantime can put immigration to the bottom of his in-tray
Braverman returns to home secretary role
Bizarre.
If that is true then what a cowardly action by Sunak. It sends a terrible signal from him that a person that resigned, out of principle by creating a security breach, he has decided is the best person for the job.
Sunak was, yet again, a chance for the Tory party to reset. They got a reset with TM, certainly got one with Johnson (you would sweat the Tories had never been in power the way they went on) and they yet again got the wipe the slate after the disaster that was Truss.
Seems the Tories are firmly of the belief that it is just a matter of the publics view of the leader that is the driving factor, and has nothing at all to do with the fundamental issues affected the country. And while I certainly see the polls narrowing, after the removal of trust, to continue on with the same failed policies that has lost them such support since 2019 seems bizarre.
Jeysus Coffey got environment and food.
He has to be trolling us.
Why would they reset? Austerity, Brexit and the culture war has made them all but unassailable until the past few months.
Bear in mind that this country is very individualistic. Remember when Thatcher said that there's no such thing as society? That's what she meant. There are people and families, that's it. The only reason the Tories are tanking now is the disastrous winter ahead and their recent scandals. Brexit, covid et al did nothing but help them.
In Sunak's new vibrant forward thinking cabinet Therese Coffey is the new Environment Minister. :pac:
Not much change. Braverman a dud z list politician.
I think Labour's lead will persist once they don't ruin it for themselves.
A woman with massive question marks over her morals around lobbying. Including environmental issues in the past.
Equalities Minister who isn't keen on equality.
Sunak has fked all talk of being a stabling influence or moderate with this sht show cabinet.
Housing ministers who don't build a single house, Brexit opportunities ministers who fail to even identify a single benefit of Brexit and chancellors who attempt to turn the pound into the rouble.
In fairness, they're consistent.
