So if (and it's still an if but in my mind more a matter of when) Russia blow the dam., then they will almost certainly try and blame it on Ukraine. Now that won't even make sense. I mean why would Ukraine avoid blowing it up for months only to then destroy it and Kherson city just when they were about to regain control over both of them? At the same time the Russians have been gleefully destroying civilian infrastructure and especially power generation capabilities all over Ukraine in the past couple of weeks under that new commanding general.
In other words - if this happens please spare us with the "Well actually..." takes trying to contort the truth. Only one side will blow up that dam and it's Russia.

I think Putin was fooled by his previous success.
In 2014 Russia supported the DPR/LPR insurgency with about 10k irregular Russian troops. Ukraine suffered quite a few defeats before it could contain the threat, eventually accepting a less than favourable ceasefire. Would it have been unreasonable for Putin to think if he unleashed 180k troops with the full backing of the Russian armed forces that Ukraine could have been quickly defeated?
I agree that all this is definitely all music to American ears though and they are not in this out of altruism. They make a fortune exporting energy to Europe, their weapons manufacturers will have order books stuffed for years funding R&D to enhance US military technology further, Russian military power is set back for years with Putin damaged, American status in the world is enhanced and Taiwan is safe (for now). The $50 billion the war has cost them so far is a bargain.
Not a chance. The refusal to even meet Ukraine two days ago went down like a lead balloon in the press. This is just an exercise in damage control.

Iran don't need a reason to target Israel. They have wanted to wipe them out for decades. They detest each other. Long history.
They won't attack Israel though. No chance.
I was fascinated back in the first gulf war (early 1990s) with the skud and patriot missiles. The Iraqi army were firing skuds in large numbers but their accuracy was hugely questionable. They usually landed many miles from target or just fell out of the sky. When patriots were launched at the skuds, they usually missed and Israel were asking the vendor (USA) about quality control. It was comical.
My guess is that they intend to increase the size of the river here in the hope that this can become part of the defacto future border and also delay / prevent a Ukrainian push to Crimea. But in the process they also rob Crimea of a most of its drinking water from the canal that’s connected to that dam.

Any offensive against dams is considered by the Geneva convention to be an indiscriminate attack on civilians due to the uncontrollable nature of any potential flooding.

Perhaps the verified presence of Iranian personnel in Crimea can be used to justify a reciprocal situation in Free Ukraine.
How long lasting will the effects of breeching a dam actually be? Would a new equilibrium be reached in days or weeks, similar to the watercourse that existed prior to the dam being built?
Regarding Israel, they may quietly do what they always do and Iranian facilities may experience "difficulties".
I imagine the conflict will widen but, as seems to be the established pattern, Putin's situation will deteoriate at every turn.
I wish for the kind of "unexplained incidents" that will demonstrate a consensus against Putin - bigger cases of sabotage or unacknowledged attacks on military assets for instance.
They have to be playing top gun danger zone when doing that.

Do Iran and Syria not know he will take then down with him. I mean their commanders must watch western media to get an idea of what's actually happening on the ground. Cant see them just watching RT or the muppet show live everyday.
