It's a really poor indicator of both the moral compass of many drivers ( they think its OK to do so long as they don't get caught ... how immature), and of the standard of design ( that its possible).
Relying on enforcement is a poor second to appropriate conscience formation.
Decision on cross link due next April but I'll be pleasantly surprised if it actually comes in that timeframe as ABP having been pushing back a heck of a lot of decisions
Also happens further north on Rahoon. Cars coming from Mincloon "knocknacarra bypass" hit a traffic jam before Rosan Glas. Then they drive on wrong side of road to access Gaelscoil MacAmhlaigh road, then floor accelerator until they hit the traffic jam at Gort na Bro roundabout
New cycle bus starting up for anyone in the Salthill area, looks like 1 day a week at the moment, Fridays only, but maybe that will change if it grows in popularity
Munster Ave closing 8am-6pm for a month for water pipe upgrades, daily from October 24 to November 25.
Strange, I don't recall this callous, extremely libertarian approach to risk on the roads when you were railing against the alleged risk to disabled people arising from developments you didn't like in DL. Seems like 'accidents happen' only applies to things that you don't mind personally yourself.
Which part of Galway is "DL" in?
SOP is getting a bit tired now.
A local councillor claims the public have been “hoodwinked” – over significant delays to the works to transform the Martin Roundabout into a signalised junction.
Councillor Alan Cheevers says the communication with the public has been sorely lacking.
The project was originally meant to be completed in August – but the deadline has since been revised to the end of the year.
It's a dry Wednesday afternoon. Why was the traffic incredibly chronic?
Something to do with it been between a hard rock and a hard place.
Like many others I am working from home 100%. Recently I have had to go into Galway for appointments before or at 9am and I have to say that the traffic is as bad as ever. Woeful stuff. I don't know how people do it. It's as bad as it ever was. If we all went back into an office it would be utter chaos in the mornings. How's that new bridge coming along?
Pretty good. Looks like it's nearly done. Full thread on it here.
Pity the Bus Connect is so limit in scope. It and the bridge will help but not as much as they could have.
All because the wind turbines were being moved! I’d say this will be an ongoing process too for the next few months, so hopefully it becomes more stream-lined.
It’s not just that the traffic lights have to be turned off, at some points, particularly at Quin Br/ Newcastle the poles have to be removed from the road each time to facilitate trucks turning right.
What route would the turbines take from the Docks to go out the N59? Lough Atalia Rd->Wellpark Rd->Tuam Rd->Bothar na dTreabh inbound->Kirwan->QB ..?
The lights were still switched off at QB/Newcastle jctn around 7:10am this morning. Tailbacks inbound past Dangan at 8am
I remember those wind turbine parts crossing Galway before. They used to move them across the city around midnight with a Garda escort. I saw them a few times. That turn at the Westwood was tricky!
I think that’s it alright, too big for the roundabout at Bohermore.
Ya that's the route.
Are these re-placement blades for Galway Windfarm ?
or is another Windfarm been built out West?
Its a NEW one.
"
The Ardderroo project – a major windfarm in Connemara – involves the importation of blades, equipment and turbines through Galway Port with 12 ships involved in the process.
Back to the drawing board............
Do we get accountability and resignations from the Councils for attempting to foist the ring road on us? ...
Does that mean it's actually done or is there going to be more adjust and resubmit?
The option is there to do a new application and re-submit but the longer it is dragged out the more the momentum shifts towards improvements in public transport, sustainable transport, congestion charging, etc. It's not impossible that a ring road will eventually be built but it's definitely less likely.
Just spent the odd €35m on the ring road.. so far.
Unlikely, but we can at least take some comfort from the fact that the ringleader's term is up in June.............
Is that a "Ring Road" + "Outer Bypass" figure?
Is Keith Finnegan finishing up with Galway Talks in June 2023? 😂
There'll hardly be a resubmission? The road won't ever get funding even if it did get planning. Waste of effort that could be spent on a huge increase in the bus connects budget.
The term "flogging a dead horse" springs to mind. Along with some more uncharitable ones towards the people involved but I'll keep them to myself
That road was never going to happen, hopefully they don't drag it out any further and start sorting out the city's public transport system (+ Park & Ride) along with some connected active travel commuter routes.
