So the balls-up has started since last night which makes Fairview from clontarf to Edges corner a single lane with bollards down the centre.
This will be a permanent feature and works will take 21 months.
This is one of those stupid council things, the park is officially closed during certain hours, with the gates only open during fully bright hours. Of course, it doesn't stop anyone getting in, as there are plenty of openings without gates, and of course, the fence itself is waist high. All it does is punish those less able.
No, it's closed at that point as they are working on the path, which is why they have the opening the earlier point, closer to Westwood.

Spotted a tree that had come down on the North Strand section. Not sure if it was high winds after root disturbance, or some other cause. Or if it might just have happened anyway.
2024 is the only date we have. I don't think we'll get commitment though. As far as utilities jobs go this is one of the most complex and extensive the state has ever seen, certainly within an urban area, its a wonder that it doesn't get more media attention, everyone focused on the cycle lane, which, in engineering terms is a minor part of this project. For comparison, Its like they built the luas and ppl only wanna talk about the seat covers.
They are great seat covers though. Don't look any more old fashioned than any other operators new designs and they've been on the go for 18 years, and there's still people realising for the first time what the design actually is in terms of the buildings

What makes it one of the most complex and extensive? Is it wastewater pipes they're replacing or what's going down there?
Water mains, waste, electricity, fibre optic. Gas pipes also alongside the works, so care taken around them as well.
In addition to what other posters have said about the number of utilities being upgraded, the coordination between utility providers is on a scale not yet seen in this country. Also the length of service replacement is staggering, kms of new services in urban areas rarely happens.
And if you thought that work was impressive, wait till DCC take the site back and start installing street signs!
The bit I love is when they dig up the newly laid road and leave it in ribbons for a year until they lay down a proper replacement, just like they did on Griffith avenue

It's not at that stage just yet.
They put a new surface on Griffith Avenue right at the new development last week, maybe the week before. Only one side of the road mind you, so they'll probably be back in a couple of months to finish it off, and not even the entire length of where they dug up.
Yeah, they've been closing it off at weekends to do it. That's the second time they've relaid it since the original works were completed. They left it in an awful state until the resurfacing over the last couple of weeks.
All my rat runs have been discovered by now. Dublin drivers are like water, they’ll always look for the easiest route.
A good few drivers going through the carpark and emerging further up inbound just before Alfie Byrne. Why do people let them merge?
Almost hit a cyclist this morning when he swung out into the 'wrong' side of the road from behind a bus on the bus and cycles only lane on the North Strand. The trouble is, there is only room for a bus, so cyclists should stay behind the bus until the road widens and it is safe to pass, not swing out a metre on to my side of the road and give me an underwear incident.
I got an awful fright. At least he had the wit to get straight back in behind the bus, but really, it was a very stupid move to be making. I see taxis at it too and they take up the whole of the outward lane, crossing the solid white line
They really need to get the police down there for a week.
Yeah, the few times I've driven into town, I've gone in and out on the Ballybough route, because it's still dangerous on the Amiens Street route.
I never thought fairview/marino mart, was a a problem to cycle, it should not be there is plenty of room to have a cycle lane off the road using the path and even the park there - the issue I found was further on on North Strand! being a bit more congested..
There's always stupid people not paying attention, who have no idea these drivers are being assholes.
I'd say it's the worst place to cycle in Dublin maybe. Going out of town especially along where Bru is and where Marino College is and the turn onto Malahide Road. Couldn't be worse for cyclists.
...but according to what many people have posted on facebook and elsewhere, there is a perfectly good cycle path going along and through the park so I don't know what you are moaning about if you get killed!!!
well you can't go through it at night for one and you have to cross the road when coming out of town to get into it and then cross over again
Closed at after dark (early in Winter) and not well lit, so that's a problem. The footpath outside the park often has cars parked on it and is quite narrow for pedestrians and cyclists to share at parts (particularly around the footbridge). The infrastructure upgrade was definitely needed, made sense to do it the same time as the Bus Connects and Irish Water works.
That pedestrian crossing sequence is bloody daft as well, especially coming from the park side. Can take a good few minutes to get across with the way it's done.
The road leading from Gaffeney's pub to the turn at Malahide road northbound is a death trap, the Bus lane is super narrow, there's a number of cars who double park or badly park at the Tesco, and at the college there's always a number of private cars who jump into the left side turn early, so better to go up Fairview ave.
For the record, I was being flippant
The thing is there is Space along the park - either shave off a few meters of the park along side the road, for - perhaps better lighting and keeping a route from after westwood gym, and/or the Howth road and/or malahide road junction to the annesley road bridge.
