Have any of these strikes actually taken out any critical infrastructure? Any power plants? Any railway hubs? Any key bridges?
Railway hubs hit in several locations
Power plants and substations hit extensively. Most of Ukraine is without power or operating with severe demand shedding. Several cities were in blackout, but backup generators brought stuff back online.
Many diesel-electric trains across Ukraine are now operating exclusively on diesel as of this morning.
Ukrenergo Starts Rolling Blackouts in Four Ukrainian Regions (3:14 p.m.)
Ukraine’s national power grid operator set up a plan for emergency power cuts for consumers in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Zhytomyr regions, the company said.

Ukrainian Officials Urge Energy Cutbacks After Strikes (1:52 p.m.)
The strikes knocked out power in five regions: Lviv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv and Ternopil, while there are partial disruptions everywhere else in Ukraine, the nation’s Emergency Services said. Ukrainians should use as little power as possible Monday evening, with the situation particularly bad in the city of Lviv, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of Zelenskiy’s office.
Tymoshenko said authorities were working to restore power and urged people to conserve energy from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. A lawmaker from Zelenskiy’s party, Andriy Gerus, said the evening would be “one of the most difficult” for Ukraine’s power sector.
“Some regions have electricity blackouts, some have a scheduled rolling blackout,” Gerus said. “Tonight it is worth minimizing the use of appliances.” Infrastructure facilities were hit in eight Ukrainian regions, the spokesman of the state emergency service Oleksandr Khorunzhyi said on television.
They have done quite a bit of infrastructural damage - though I'd say by end of week most of Ukraine will have stable power and water again
Imagine Polish troops and British SAS stationed across the Belarusian border as part of a joint peacekeeping operation...
It's a living.
Ukrainian authorities say Russian ships carrying cruise missiles have reloaded and re-entered the black sea
Ukrainians expecting a 2nd wave...
An independent Russian journalist says these bombings are primarily aimed at the hard line hawks in Russia and the media (guys like Solovyov), Putin trying to reassure them after the bridge attack that the regime is not impotent and is not losing the war.
At that rate surely Russian cruise missile stocks will not last very long. We have heard stories of limited Russian advanced missile stocks before.
This day has been something of a shock for me, for the past few weeks I've been in good form as I watched the UA skrink Russia's theatre of war and torment the propagandists back in Moscow, but it seems like the Kremlin are now intent on destroying Ukraine and its people with open maliciousness. Perhaps the Kremlin has finally realized that the hearts and minds of Ukrainians cannot be turned (just last week Putin said he had great respect for them), so let's just kill 'em all instead. What happens next ? Western support seems dependant on Ukraine following a defensive strategy, but will Ukraine send a grand gesture back to Moscow in response to this morning ? Seems like Russia is saying, What you gonna do about it ?
I would guess it's only the beginning of what's about to go down.
Medvedev said back in July I think it was, that there will be a "judgement day" for Ukraine if Crimea was to be attacked. This is assuming they consider the bridge to be part of Crimea, which it's likely they probably do. "Judgement day will come fast and hard" was the full remark.
I did say earlier in this thread, that Ukraine would take out that bridge only when they were going "all in". Or possibly if they think Russia are doing likewise. So assuming it was Ukraine, then we should probably expect things to get pretty ugly in the next few weeks. It's possible that Ukraine have intel from their own sources or the US, that Russia are planning something huge and it would make strategic sense to take out that bridge to hamper their efforts. But it's still a very dangerous move.
On that this popped up , expect fake news claims
After Bucha, Irpin, Severodonetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia et al, you only think now that Russia wants to destroy Ukraine as a nation?
Could well be - although it coincides with the new leader of the war SMO being appointed - the same man who oversaw Russia's bomb them into the stone age policy in Syria
This has echoes of the Shock and Awe policy in Iraq - destroy the infrastructure from afar and then move in to mop up. Except of course theyve already "gone in" and it didnt go so well for them. New russian leadership trying to start the invasion from scratch?
That's a position often spouted by the US, however, it is not the position under international law.
The question of weather a state can act in self defense against an attack on it's embassy is actually unanswered in international law.
The quoted text from Wikipedia stems from the US's own loose interpretations of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 and the United States of America vs Islamic Republic of Iran [1980] ICJ1 International Court of Justice case.
There was an excellent article in recent years published regarding this in the European Journal of International Law, I'll see if I can find a copy.
Comedians can have a very astute grasp of social and philosophical issues. Comedy is the curve ball of truth-telling.
Since the middle of April there have been predictions here that Russia will run out of ammunition in 2-3 weeks. We're in mid October now....
I'd say: as long as they keep firing, assume they've more in reserve
But the Russkis don't seem to have hit any key infrastructure in Kyiv - they appear to have fired a few random cruise missiles into the city centre. One hit a busy traffic intersection, another hit a passenger bridge, another exploded near a university. It seems to have been a purely PR stunt / terrorist attack.
Graphic footage but found this material on vk. This person claims this particular atrocitie was carried out by Azov members in Kupyansk.

I think it's clear from the beginning the Russian attitude was: we take your country or we destroy it.
For a while that aim may have been scaled down to: we take part of your country and/or destroy it.
Now, when it looks like they can't even manage that, they seem to be pivoting to: okay, let's just destroy it.
Yes, it's a sign of desperation, but for those of us who actually want to see this war end, it's very hard to see an end point short of a coup to oust Putin and replace him with someone better. Russia doesn't need much territory to make life hell for a lot of the country, as today shows again. Ukraine can keep grinding out victories on the battlefield, but there's no reason Russia can't maintain this awful terror campaign for many months to come. If it didn't have nukes the West would go in and pulverise it, but with that threat we are still holding back....
Lushashenko on the west and Poland
Yeah no .....
Amazing he hasn't visited the front line yet.
they hit at least one Thermal Power plant in Kiev today
That link (thankfully) doesn't appear to be working. However if it's the video of bodies being thrown into a pit then that was taken from a Russian soldier's phone, showing Russian soldiers disposing of civilians that they had murdered.
So basically Russians projecting as usual.
Must be the day that's in it, few extra obvious Russian supporter's here it seems, also must be the same for Twitter with "ZelenskyWarCriminal" as the trending hashtag on Twitter.
Yeah it appears to be that one.
This is some footage!
The change in direction in the end is crazy, slows and then dive bombs
Them russians are doing an awful lot with computer chips reclaimed from washing machines
I think the only thing "Punch and Judy" about Zelenskyy is the universal chorus of "That's the way to do it!" in reaction to his on-point actions and responses to constant Russian threats, crimes, provocations and atrocities.
You can fight an invading army without bombing the civilians in the other country
When your biggest assets are that you have the unwavering support of the most advanced military in the world, and global support politically and economically, you gain nothing by committing war crimes.
It is not Ukraine who have a hand tied behind their back, it's Russia, they can't import parts for their weapons due to the sanctions, nor can they export their oil or gas at the market rate, they are getting little if any military aid from abroad. They are being hampered massively because they are the aggressors, and they are war criminals, and because of these facts, those sanctions will not be lifted for a long time to come. Even a victory in this war against Ukraine, for Russia would be at the cost of the economic future for the entire Russian federation
Yes, it reminds me of the way that Javelin missiles create an arc-like trajectory for themselves so that they hit the target more vertically than horizontally.
It looks like it may have been a Kalibir:
