Have not heard FreeDAB over recent weeks (Dublin MUX) - is it gone now ?
anyone know what is the story with trax dublin has it closed?
website says station no longer available and social media is gone so i am assuming it has but maybe someone knows different?
i just checked their website and it says they are upgrading to freedab 2.05, so i presume some major upgrades are taking place but time will tell i guess.
It was time to call it a day. Five years was a milestone, but all good things and all that.
Will compile and upload some tribute audio mix.
ah right, sorry to hear that.
best of luck and thanks for the tunes.
Regarding this ICE radio, was it a coincidence or otherwise that this happened just some days after moving frequency from 99.5 to 102.5 ??
It is understood that this FM transmission was from a location approx 5km south-west of Balbriggan in north Co. Dublin.
In some parts of north Co. Dublin the optimum frequency for RnaG is 102.7 ? (instead of 92.9 or 93.5), might the nearby 0.2 adjacency have been an issue?
Certainly on some radios with poor selectivity, yes. I have one here that struggles with anything on 105.2 because of iRadio on 105.0. Or even RTE Radio 1 on 88.5 creeping in over BBC Radio 2 on 88.7.
I can't see them moving that fast.
It takes some time to complete the site analysis, prepare the paperwork and then obtain a warrant. They likely would have had some of this prepared though.
However, no 24/7 pirate seems to last for very long these days. The 99.5 frequency may have also been an issue as temporary stations were due to use it from Bray at the end of the month (Freedom, then Christmas FM).
Retro FM on today on 92.0. Probably the only pirate on with reasonable coverage.
Energy Power AM on 1440kh (or 208 metres) MW had a good bit of coverage today as well. Incidentally, there was live programming this evening with Paul Murray.
Has RTÉ Chill been axed? Description on my saorview has been replaced with "."
OK here from Mt Leinster -- RTE Chill and RTE Junior playing the same music.
EPG shows RTE Chill "no extra information"
Just an epg issue here in South Dublin perhaps
On a side note, the digital stations are still earmarked to be shut down aren't they?
They are no longer digital stations - only available online - already "shut down".
Shut down on DAB, but continuing on Saorview, so they are still digital stations in that sense.
Also available on Virgin Media's digital tv platform. Outside of the tv digital platforms, all those extra RTE stations are available online.
Sorry to hear this Thanks for All the great tunes Trax I recall your Signal on 107.1 in Dublin was Superb and your Audio was also . Well Done to all involved 👏
Passing through Cork City and 'Juice' on the air again on 88.7fm tonight
Back this Sunday the 30th October (Sorry Family and aerial problems) ABC 80's Radio Memories this week is from "Radio Ireland International - This is a studio recording of Tony Clarke on the north Dublin based shortwave pirate Radio Ireland International, which broadcast on 6310kHz. The date for this broadcast was January 20th 1985. " Tune-in on 93.3 FM / liveradio.ie/Tune-in Radio/Alexa and https://daniel.torontocast.com:3015/stream With thanks to Radiowaves Ireland / An Anoraks Ireland original with thanks to Joe Cashin
I was listening to ABC 80s on 93.3 FM on the car radio coming up to teatime around the Dundrum area. The reception was very sporadic, coming and going. Curiously, when the relay of Radio Ireland International started shortly after 6pm, the reception improved considerably! Interesting listening - now listening at home online. It is very much hobby horse and anorak territory! It is as far away as you could get from the superpirates of that period......or even the medium-sized pirates!
While I am here, as well as ABC 80s, I picked up the following stations during my travels this weekend.
92.0 FM - Retro FM
94.3 FM - Relay of All Eighties
98.4 FM - The 90s Network
1440 kh (208 metres) MW - Energy Power AM
All the remaining Dublin pirates now are oldies pirates. That is assuming that Phever and The Beach have called it a day (91.6 and 105.7, respectively).
Bank Holiday Monday in south Dublin:
Real FM (English speaking station from Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura) is being relayed on 94.3 FM and 99.5FM. It was relayed earlier on 1440 kh MW, before Energy Power AM took over. Retro FM is on 92.0FM.
ABC 80's Radio Memories this week is from "Radio Valleri October 19th 1975 - After around a year off the air Dublin shortwave pirate Radio Valleri returned on October 19th 1975 with a repeat broadcast of a documentary about the free radio scene in Dublin.
As it is a shortwave recording there are patches where the audio is difficult to listen to but that should not spoil your enjoyment of what is a fantastic piece of radio history." Tune-in on 93.3 FM / liveradio.ie/Tune-in Radio/Alexa and https://daniel.torontocast.com:3015/stream With thanks to Radiowaves Ireland / DX Archive (Aerial work due Thursday/Friday with luck and weather)
That should make for interesting radio and I will try to give it a listen if I get a chance. I expect a certain Derek Jones to feature. He is involved with weekend oldies pirate Retro FM these days. He briefly brought back Radio Valleri over a weekend last year. Just one observation - it won't be from the 1980s!
I heard a good bit of this broadcast this evening online. Anorak heaven! It was interesting to hear about the stations around between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s and the people involved. It included a pre-Eamon Cooke Radio Dublin, which was often referred to by Derek Jones on his broadcast as "The Big D". That was later to be the name of a breakaway station. A certain Arno St. Jude was mentioned in relation to a number of stations in the early 1970s including Radio Valeri itself. He is better known these days as Declan Meehan on East Coast FM. The late Mike Anderson, who operated Radio Valeri with Dermot Blake, aka Derek Jones, featured near the start of this broadcast.
ABC 80's Radio Memories this week is from "Radio Rainbow International - This is edition 31 of Kieran Murray’s Free Radio Show on the SW station Radio Rainbow International from August 24th 1986 based in Louth.
This week’s featured station is Athlone Local Radio and the jingle package is from Downtown Radio in Northern Ireland " Tune-in on 93.3 FM / liveradio.ie/Tune-in Radio/Alexa and https://daniel.torontocast.com:3015/stream With thanks to Radiowaves Ireland and Kieran Murray
Irish language station Radio Ri-Ra testing for FM temporary service tonight, silent carriers
ABC 80's Radio Memories this week is from "Radio Andrea November 14th 1987 -This is a studio-based recording of Radio Andrea International, a short wave station based in Dublin using the facilities and frequency of Westside Radio International. Dave Evans is the presenter, who also gives brief updates of the latest happenings on the Dublin radio scene. " Tune-in on 93.3 FM / liveradio.ie/Tune-in Radio/Alexa and https://daniel.torontocast.com:3015/stream With thanks to Radiowaves Ireland
I picked up Raidió Rí-Rá in the car this morning driving to work, on 105.5 in Limerick.
Though the RDS just displayed RIRA
I was a bit worried until I read the thread and realised the RDS was missing a dash and fada's 😆
That's a pity guys. Trax Dublin will be missed.I continued listening on tune in app and DAB long after 107.1 closed.
Comreg have successfully forced people over to online due to the lack of selection on FM and freeDAB now seems to have disappeared
Mike Anderson is definitely not "the late"! He is very much alive and kicking!😀
