Large scale damage, photos look very serious.
Hopefully no fatalities or serious injuries, but hard not to imagine people will have been hurt in that.
rest in peace
I got the feeling that Varadkar and Martin were slightly inconvenienced in having to go all the way to Donegal on a Saturday. The Superintendent was excellent today especially considering he probably knows all the deceased personally and he’d no sleep for 2 days.
This has struck me in my heart because I know how close knit and insular these remote rural villages are and the grief will never fully subside.
I don't know about a fire, but there is definitely a person involved being treated in the burns unit. Wishing them a heartfelt speedy recovery.
10 people died (and an unborn baby) in a fire in Carrickmines in 2015
eidited to add - this is in response to the comment that there hasn’t been a loss of life like this in a long time - (forgot to quote)
My belated apologies .
I only realised just now that this thread was a specifically Donegal thread -I carelessly thought it was a general thread. I can see how my observations might have been seen as singularly inappropriate given the overall context.
For what it's worth -my wife is from the Donegal Gaeltacht not that far from Creeslough , I've been to Creeslough many times and befriended a woman called Gallagher when I was studying in the US many years ago.
Ba mhaith liom comhbhrón a dhéanamh leo siúd i gCraoslach atá buartha i ndiaidh na tubaiste uafásaí seo.
Hype.... Honestly? seriously!
The post you quoted does not mention this word, so what are you getting at?
must be incredibly difficult few days for all of the emergency services - hope they get the support they need too.
Leave it. That issue has been addressed.
That has been dealt with.
Thanks!
An Post has announced that they will accept donations for a special Creeslough Community Support Fund at all of its 920 post offices nationwide from Monday.
“All donations by cash or debit card will be channelled through the Irish Red Cross to provide practical support and services to all those who have been bereaved, injured or made homeless by Friday’s tragedy. There will be no fee payable for making donations.
“Board, management and staff across Ireland send their deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers to all those who have lost loved ones in the Cresslough tragedy, to those who are injured, to the Postmistress and Post Office staff and all the Creeslough community.
“An Post and the Irish Red Cross will work with State service providers and local groups to ensure that supports are available to all those who need them in the weeks and months ahead,” a statement from the company said.
Sadly, it looks like I was right about a person being airlifted to a Dublin hospital for treatment of severe burns.
Carrickmines halting site fire a few years back
Around 6000 people have died of covid in the last 2 1/2 years. That's a tragedy of similar scale that we are all dealing with almost daily unfortunately.
Fair point about the national covid deaths. However, this is somewhat different. 10 deaths in an instant. Its a localised tragedy of epic proportions for a small community.
Totally different imo, 10 deaths suddenly in a small village is catastrophic to the local psyche
You "got the feeling" but have no evidence for it. Quit the political jibes ffs, this is a massive tragedy affecting an entire community at a personal level and even nationally at an empathetic level.
I got the feeling that Varadkar and Martin were slightly inconvenienced in having to go all the way to Donegal on a Saturday.
What a crass comment! You got a feeling? You want to make a political dig, more like it. They seemed genuine to me. Using this tragedy, like you did, for political dirt slinging, is such a low move.
This is why Boards is dying.
Varadkar and Martin appeared to me to be distracted and disinterested yesterday. Have you reported my post to a mod as being crass? If not, why not? Do you realise at all that people who hold different views to you are also allowed to post here?
What I’m going to do is report your response to me as offensive and let’s see how we get on. Ok?
Report my post rather then try to be a back seat mod. I’ve reported this.
If you give an "opinion", you should have some basis for it.
I’ve reported both those posts. I’ll wait and see what happens.
I don't think crass political comments are against any Board's rules, as neither is bad taste, so why would I report it?
The dregs are still out in force this morning.
Using this tragedy to whine over boards moderation is a new low.
Reported it for what exactly? I'm going to stop engaging with you, don't want to be part of derailing the thread.
Yes. I watched the news. I found Varadkar bored and disinterested in the tragedy. Anything else?
I reported you for back seat modding.
You're probably right
Confirmation bias, you don't like the man so anything he does you see as unsatisfactory, you're not alone, there's plenty morons have similar views
