Large scale damage, photos look very serious.
Hopefully no fatalities or serious injuries, but hard not to imagine people will have been hurt in that.
This happened just after 3. Not totally sure what time the National school finishes on a Friday but it’s near the location too. Not unusual to pop into the shop after picking kids up.
I just hope school traffic had been and gone. Most pensioners collect in the mornings too.
Looks shocking,
I've been to a campsite just across the road to that filling station a couple of times in the past, and would have used that shop. Really hope that things are not as bad as they look on the pictures. Awful for the people of Creeslough.
I would suggest that Madigan is the one who started that train of thought. Somebody would need to be a right clown to feign ignorance of what is meant by talking about "culprits" after an explosion.
I worked there a couple of years back and remember the post office on the main street. I was telling someone that I thought there was no post office in the station. That's worse news now if it relocated. Especially on a Friday.
Hopefully some good news soon .
A helicopter landing zone set up in the Phoenix Park now . That would mean they are transferring patients to Dublin . What a dreadful tragedy
why wouldn't the helicopter land directly at the hospital - surely the main hospitals like the Mater have a helipad?
It's a terrible tragedy. Hopefully no fatalities or life altering injuries.
On the helipad in Phoenix Park. Would hospitals not have their own for emergency /trauma ? Maybe not St James with construction work, and close to the Park, so that would make sense.
Awful news. If it is gas, these are pretty rare.
Anyone remember the one in Raglan House, Ballsbridge, beside DART Station in late 80's. Gas was not approved for use in apts for a period afterward.
My understanding is that there are multiple helicopters expected
An airspace restriction has been imposed over Creeslough as the injured are being airlifted from the scene. The Irish Coast Guard based at Howth said on Friday evening that it is setting up a landing zone in the Phoenix Park for inbound helicopters from Mulroy Coast Guard in Co Donegal. The service subsequently tweeted that the Sligo Coast Guard helicopter was undertaking an emergency medical service flight from Letterkenny Hospital to Dublin.
Exactly.
ah, this sounds very bad. God help them all.
What stands out to me from the aerial images posted on the Irish Times website is the 3x ESB vans. Obviously a lot of solar on the roof which might explain why, but unusual to see...
Terrible stuff, but another life lost if you go gung ho (or several)?
I remember that one very very well. Passed it that morning. It set in train some string safety regulations which has prevented many gas explosions since.
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say, but I'd say it's best not to say it now.
Can anyone tell me how this kinda thing can happen?
Absolutely horrible, the poor people
(Mod)
No. We dont need the speculation. What caused this will become public when all investigations have been carried out.
Too soon to say/speculate.
I'm just saying there are safety procedures to landing a helicopter. You can't just land any place.
It's horrible what happened. But taking a risk isn't worth it.
The aerial photo from the following Irish Times article seems to show that much of the structure that was under the solar panels and above the shop, is gone.
Flight radar shows helicopters on route. Don’t think Derry etc have neurosurg or indeed any Paeds trauma so fingers crossed for all involved
Flight radar only shows one helicopter on outskirts of Dublin and one similar helicopter up and down from carlow to meath whatever that is about..so there are no other helicopters ..
Jaysus, that does not look good
I'm not asking for gossip or speculation.
I'm just asking in general what leads to a gas explosions
Surely if they were that short for helipad space they would be transferring patients to different hospitals rather than setting up additional landing zones an ambulance journey away from St James's.
That said St James's usual landing zone is in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Is the circus shutting that down or making that more awkward.
It always baffles me why people demand to know what caused something like this, 4 hours after it happened, when rescue and recovery operations are still intensive and when even the most senior fire and emergency experts on site won't have a bloody clue yet.
The immediacy of social media really has made us lose our collective reason, our capacity for analysis, our forbearance and circumspection.
Its quite sad.
The first chopper has landed at Dublin Airport
Coastguard helicopter is huge, too big to land at any of the main Dublin hospitals. N.IRL air ambulance heli is a lot smaller so can land at hospitals.
Well I presume the experts know what is best practice for a major incident with multiple traumas .
Hope everyone gets any help they need in time.
And hope the press/public have the sense to give the emergency services and hospital the space they need instead of demanding to find out information.
