On a whim, I registered for the lottery for this.

Found out this morning, that I was successful (woohoo/uh oh)

Any advice from people who have ran it before?

Anyone else doing it?

I've ran DCM twice before, so have an idea how to train for it, but have never travelled for a race before. Rough estimate is a finishing time of between 3:30 and 3:45

Looks like its going to be an expensive few days.

Race is on the Sunday. Plan is to fly on the Friday, and home on the Tuesday. Going to cost about €500

Booked (relatively) affordable accommodation about 2 miles from Grant Park. Going to cost me $1100 for the 4 nights.

Unfortunately injury means I won't be able to run this weekend. Really gutted.

If anyone decides to pull out of the 5k and would be willing to sell their bib i'd love to take it, travelling all that way I'd love to get some experience of running on the streets of Chicago. Unfortunately it's sold out.

Are people planning anything for Sunday night after the race by the way?

As I posted earlier I'm going to Sweetwater Tavern after the race if anyone is around, hopefully get some food and watch some NFL etc. I'd imagine it would be worth making an online reservation if you plan to go after the race.

I actually tested positive for Covid last week, thankfully zero symptoms and zero affect on my running*.

@adrian522 not sure what people have planned but I'm the same as you will be watching NFL and earing wings.

I'm going to aim to pop up to the Kerryman after the marathon,but dont want to commit to a seat, as I could just easily go back to the hotel for a sleep.

If I do make it, hopefully they'll have WiFi, and I'll post in here. Will be on my own regardless, and no doubt get talking to marathon runners in there

Sounds good, I've a booking at 1pm for 6 people and there are only 2 of us so no hassle if you rock up.

There is also a free pizza party being advertised for the Sunday night.

Just finished my last run from the training plan. Next stop Chicago.

Im sure most of you have run many marathons before, and followed training plans before, but for me, this is the first time I've had any formal training.

Done Dublin twice before, and just winged the training each time.

Effort 1, I crashed at mile 16, and had to walk most of the rest of it, finishing in 4hrs 52

Effort 2, I ran for 7 weeks in the build up, with very little structure. But at least I did more long runs.

Had a friend who has completed sub 3hr marathons run with me, and dragged me through to break 4hours, in a time of 3hrs 52.

Dying to see how I can do after following a training plan fairly successfully since the end of July. Since July 21st, ive ran a tad over 550km.Very excited for this Sunday

The Tracksmith pop-up stuff was great at Berlin. Shakeout run on Saturday morning with free coffee and breakfast after. Posters with your time stamped after the race. Unfortunately I was too late to get the race bag with the hat - they went quickly.

And yeah, their gear is expensive, but very nice. I got the Berlin singlet and it's fantastic.

There is still entries for the drinks reception after the race but similar to Berlin the free hats and bags are all gone.

Good luck all. Heading over in the morning to join a club contingent of about a dozen. Just thinking about the race for the moment, will just follow the club crowd in terms of the post race entertainment. Too many competing opinions so far, nothing decided! Couldn't be bothered about the merch - will just pick up a souvenir from whatever is available at the expo.

Still not sure of my plan after. Hotel is on the way to the majority of the bars. Will probably stop off for a shower, and realistically a little snooze.

Will probably head to the Kerryman, but there is some dive bar called Rossi's that is on the way, and was recommended to me. Might stop in there too.

What time are people planning to be down at the race for? I'm in wave 1, so aiming to be going through the security at 6am
