All guns barrels eventually need replacing whether it be a carbine to 155 artillery they have a shelf life and will eventually fail if not properly maintained, ukraine currently has more tanks, artillery, armor and aircraft than they had months ago and still increasing on a weekly basis, leopards and Abrams won't make much of difference, unless you have them in large numbers along with the techs maintaining them along with the spare parts to keep them running.
Don’t think you quite get how the bond market works now do you?
I don't understand how the guy(s) behind 1420 haven't accidentally fallen through a 12th storey window while coming back from the shop, but here is the latest video asking some more rural Russians their opinion on the mobilisation.
Looks like the Russian version of things is taking a bit better in these types of places.
That is a ridiculous interpretation.
It's like saying why didn't the Iraq veterans abandon ship.
Muhammad Ali was banned from boxing for not going to Vietnam.
Interesting thought now, there's been a number of discussions about how things may play out if internal politics decides to remove Putin...but what happens if he gets assassinated?
Nope there is absolutely nothing to suggest that Russia have the capabilities of a massive offensive from the North and South.
If anything it is the complete opposite, pillaging the villages for conscripts are at best for consolidation, the are not offensive trained or capable combat troops.
One of the main problems facing Ukraine in the next couple of months is what they will do with the 10s of 1000s of Russian POWs, a logistical nightmare, they will probably need help with.
Yes, when Putin is ousted or when his military is destroyed beyond repair, and it won't matter who replaces him. Russia will be a toothless tiger. He or his replacement will not be threatening anyone.
Nobody on here, with the exception of 1/2 posters maybe able to answer who have knowledge of Russian politics,
Putin gets whacked tomorrow nothing changes in Ukraine, the current occupation force won't leave and whoever takes over putin will stay the course what ever that may be
It looks like beryslav is next destination for the Ukrainan army, which is only across the river from the Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric dam and power station, which is strategic to Kherson and Crimea Nova Kakhovka falls the water gets turned off to Crimea
I wouldn't say that is absolute, it would be quite stupid not to use it as an off ram to get themselves out of this unwinnable pickle.
Cowardly feckers and should not be allowed into any EU country. Send them back pronto to face up to their masters. We don't need that sort of poison here.
Given the high concentration of vodka in most Orcs, they are able to survive sub zero temperatures quite well, as their alcohol infused brain, blood and tissues don't begin to freeze until -27°C. However, their lower gut does tend to stop functioning, so while being technically still alive, they are also even more full of shit than normal.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans left for Canada to avoid the draft, and they were highly vocal about their opposition to the war. Between 60 and 100'000 left for Canada and elsewhere. This opposition eventually brought the war to an end. In 1978, President Ford granted clemency to 210'000 Americans accused of draft offences. Gestures like Mohammad Ali's refusing to go and fight, also helped stop the war. But even then, the US did not react to their draft dodgers / refusers as Putin is doing... forced conscription, 15-year jail terms etc. No one is safe in present day Russia. Object, and shortly after (days in fact) and you are on the front lines. And another little bit of information I was reading about this morning (link to follow) but meanwhile take it as an advisory. Seems like the new conscripts are responsible for supplying their own gear, and they are being given a list of what they will need...about 30 items in total. And all individually priced, from medical kits to night vision goggles and Armour plating. Also, they are being offered loans to purchase these items, with your Parents, Brothers etc being responsible in case of default (MIA, for example) and where there is a body recovered, the loan balance is taken from the death benefit. Maybe someone else has seen this too?
Wait, so we should make them fight against Ukraine rather than fleeing as political exiles?
Wouldn't we be hurting Ukraine by denying them safe passage into the EU?
In a world where Russia's current ambitions were defeated, and Putin possibly deposed, I would be wary of the temptation to dust one's hands and go, 'job done!' and walk away. Evil festers in the dark corners. A close eye would need to be kept on the country.
Plus the lend lease from USA saved their hides
Interesting thread predicting for how things are going to go:
1 & 2 have been happening for the last month and have been snowballing in recent days.
#3 has just begun:
I just don't understand this.
They have a lot of WMD. They can still do a lot of damage regardless of who is in charge.
Kreminna-Svatove highway is under Ukrainian fire control
The Kreminna-Svatove line is collapsing for the Russians. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are advancing to take control of Kreminna
Whoever comes in would have to show they are better and more capable of beating Russias enemies and be able to return the Soviet union to greatness, this war isn't unpopular in Russia, Russians having to go fight in slightly unpopular but the leader is all popular along with the idea of the return of the Soviet union
When the war is over and the Ukraine win, I wonder will the countries who armed the Ukraine be looking for some compensation for the billions they gave to help them out with.
I'm sure there's nothing for nothing and chips ain't for free.
Do I detect a note of bitterness?
The war isn't unpopular in Russia until the war is unpopular in Russia. That will come as we have already seen when it can effect anyone. The course is set. Things will get worse not better.
When Russian state media are kicking off you know there is problems, Putin has been spared thus far, but if 25,000 Russian soldiers are to be taken hostage in the next few weeks, he will not survive without criticism, there is only so many Generals you can sack.
"the Ukraine." Interesting.
Russia will likely pay reparations which will help.
Apparently, as this is just "entertainment", they can get away with talking dog whistling propaganda bollocks to their audience. No "reasonable viewer" is supposed to take the likes of Tucker Carlson seriously. That's the line from Fox News lawyers anyway.
We should make them fight against Russia, or anything but let them in here. Any room that might be still available should be used for people fleeing war, not cowards that support Putin - because they do support him, they just don't want to be them doing the fighting.
1+++++
Boris Johnson did the very same thing.
Of course. I reckon many foreign construction companies and consultants will be in rebuilding the place. Many foreign companies will be given licences to extract Ukraines oil and gas.
I like the backhanded insult contained in that legal defence.
I think most of the countries see this as an investment in their own long term defence, especially those countries in close proximity to Russia. It's been an absolute bargain for them - they supply weapons and the Ukrainians do the actual fighting and dying that hobbles and humbles the Russians. Same goes for the USA but for them it's also a warning to China.
The USA have spent less than $100 billion so far (I'm not exactly sure of the number so am being conservative here - it could be less than $70B). That might sound like a lot of money but relative to the $2,313 Billion they ploughed into Afghanistan it's a fraction and it's arguably already been a bigger success for them.
