Seeing as Elton has now rescheduled his Dublin gigs, might be useful to start a 2023 thread as others might start popping up.
The Commitments - 7th - 19th February (Olympia Theatre)
Elton John - 28th/29th March (3Arena)
RDS maybe but not sure will it hold more than the 3 bruce gig's
Maybe Malahide or Marley Park and IIP in Cork
Looking like June could be a busy month for gigs
Depeche Mode now confirmed as Malahide Castle, June 14th.
Nice, hopefully it won't be clashing with anything
Pity I never went to see them when Andy Fletcher was still with us
Any particular reason you feel compelled to see them now?
Any word on prices for Depeche mode
The sesh
Sure it's something to do and too look forward too
Is that OK ?
He’s only played here a few years ago- I’d say there will be plenty of tickets closer to the date available - i guess you can never predict demand for these type of acts - I’ve been there seen the last gig, no interest in going again especially if tickets are expensive
From €79.65 including booking charge according to Nialler9.
That implies a golden circle, but very reasonable none the less.
Is having different priced sections a relatively new thing for outdoor gigs?
If it's all standing then yes, the rds used to put seats in what is now the gold circle and sell them at a premium, but I think the gold circle thing is a last 5 years situation.
Would be a shame if Malahide had a golden circle. Its strength to me is having a big outdoor feel whilst still being quite compact and inclusive.
Wednesday night , bah.
Nearly all the Marlay and big Malahide gigs seem to be midweek.
Marlay park is used for longitude the weekend they are allowed to put shows
And majority of shows being weekdays is maths and bigger markets/stadiums getting the Saturday show
Pretty much.
I'm hoping the location benefits the atmosphere since you'd want the day on either side of it booked off to enjoy the build up and recover.
The 3 Arena can be quite morose for weeknight gigs with audiences of a certain age since people rush in from work and struggle with the craic levels without a few pints first.
Yup we're stung by being a relatively small market here alright than way
Midweek in Malahide, no thank you.
Great live band though.
for stadium tours the likes of London and Manchester nearly always get the weekend shows ( as they do multiple nights like Friday - Sunday) and due to logistical nature of ireland we always get tours either side in the weekday
Is it not just because it would be cheaper for the promoter to rent the venue for a midweek day rather than a weekend?
Sometimes, but usually every tour will have a main show (Twickenham in this case) and the rest of the tour will be pieced around that, so unless it's an Irish based band or Garth Brooks, Ireland will be midweek.
Wouldn't mind seeing Depeche Mode but Malahide on a Wednesday evening would be a stretch for me. Not living in Dublin.
No Price difference in rental price for any proper venue especially at big show/stadiums level. Local back room in a bar might give you a discount for putting on a Monday night etc.
but likes of GAA/Aviva/Dublin corporation is not charging a lower rate for a midweek show in their spaces.
tour managers/promoters are simply trying to route shows across europe with venue availability and trying to ensure that in bigger market they have capacity to add extra shows.
stadium show planning is especially difficult/narrow window as alot of the venues may be used for sports/football until May and back again in august.
I live in Dublin and its a 50 quid taxi each way for me.
Or option B - drive and spend 2 hours stuck in the carpark after.
Would parking at a DART station along the way be an option? Know there can be massive queues to get on darts from there too though.
Huge queues. Theres extra trains but you'll still be queuing for ages.
Its like going to Mecca for Hajj.
If you're a big Mode fan theyre playing Friday/Saturdays in Antwerp, Berlin, Budapest, Oslo. Just go to one of those and make a weekend out of it.
Got on a train no problem last time for The Cure, just ducked out before the end. I think it was Friday I'm in Love. This time it'll be Personal Jesus or something like that. Songs I've heard to death before and don't need a 12 minute rendition of again if it means beating the crowds.
99% of the crowd are there to hear those tunes.
Any venue where you have to leave early is shít.
Good thinking .Im going to London and Malahide to see them ,I’m thinking of taking the week off and having a great week overall between London and Dublin .
To be honest I prefer their indoor arena shows - Bercy indoors for one is incredible, but as a fan it’s great to have them play again and play locally .
Yep, in fact Depeche Mode only have 3 Saturday dates in their whole European tour - Antwerp, London and Paris.
A few of the Friday gigs are at festivals too.
Most of the US dates are weeknights too, only San Jose, Toronto and New York are on Friday/Saturdays...
