They are "moving to more advantageous defence lines", so yeah retreating.
If language is the only criterion, America is a British colony. So is the Republic of Ireland! Here's a map
Except the Ukraine wouldn't do that, would they?
Whether you like it or not the Crimea is mostly Russian.
I agree Zv, however the facts are it was the least "Ukrainian" as far as polls went down the years, they did flood it with Russians(and expelled the Tartars IIRC), so it's not unlike, in a shorter space of time of course, the English flooding Planters into Ireland especially in the north and why we've had a divided island. Enough in a small part didn't want to join the rest. And look at the mess that was. Sadly that's the reality on the ground in Crimea IMHO.
Something similar is in play in the heartlands of Donbass. Because of the civil war a lot of Ukrainians left, more left since this Russian invasion and seperatists are more in play. Something I noticed among the twitter vids; When Ukrainians liberate a load of areas there are lots of locals greeting the troops as saviours. You see almost no vids from the Russians of similar in those areas. At best in the early days you had Russians handing out food and the like in town squares with very muted people lining up. Eff all people handing out tea and biccies that's for sure. In Donbas you get a lot more of a mix of both welcoming one side or the other..
I was beginning to think Kherson was a lost cause - but I suppose they know what they are doing.
In the everyday address President Zelensky confirmed liberation of Arkhanhelske and Myroliubivka of Kherson region
True. But I'm wondering how much of an effect the war, since 2014, has on people's wishes. It is understandable that aggression from the Ukrainians would make them turn towards Russia. Without that aggression how would they vote? It seems to me the aggression was stirred up by the Russians in the first place for exactly that purpose: to turn them towards Russia and to give Russia an excuse to invade.
I think when this is all said and done the population of Crimea will be forever majority Ukrainian,
Deportation of all Russians should be the only policy
I recall one of that guy Bald and Bankrupt vids had him on a train in Ukraine and the signs outside suddenly going to Hungarian. Fascinating stuff.
And both America and Ireland were British colonies(with French and Spanish in play with the former). Language as a gauge of allegiances is a very fuzzy guide indeed.
Isn't that the same missile which Russian state had the graphic of where a tidal wave completely enveloped Ireland and Britain? It must be the most overhyped nuclear weapon ever invented, not possessing anywhere near the power to generate such an effect (most of the water would be turned into steam). And even if it in any way lived up to the hype, using it in the Black Sea sounds like an incredibly dumb idea when there are Russian strategic assets in the region, never mind what was intimated to happen to Russia if they let off a small nuke, never mind that monstrosity.
In Lyman they have retreated victoriously once again, and in Kherson they are soon encircled and trapped again in the north it seems after Ukraine found a weakspot and broke trough the russian defence lines.
Russian Crimeans still voted to remain ethnically Russian in 1994. Most Crimean Russians hold a Russian passport. One of the items they were asked to vote on, even if they weren't entirely enamoured with the idea of joining the Russian Federation entirely.
Zelensky himself is a native Russian speaker and only speaks Ukrainian as a second language (illustrating how ridiculous the idea is of using language alone to define nationality.) James Connolly and Michael Collins could hardly speak a word of Irish.
Things must have changed since 2001
Indeed, slipped. Yes.
I doubt that weapon could even do 1/20 of its supposed power. The maths (according to Vids about it) stated it doesnt add up.
I was reading something recently about how large numbers of bilingual people in Ukraine have started to reject Russian as a language (since February 24th) and are making active efforts to speak Ukrainian only.
"That's a typical Nazi trick, Wilson!"
So much depends on morale & belief in the cause, as well as military supplies and food. Russian forces are clearly under strain. All very well, some ******* up in Moscow issuing orders and passing decrees, if they're not dealing with the sh*t on the ground.
At the time the majority of Crimeans rejected Russian passports and instead choose to have Ukrainian passports
Is that just simple majority though by local area? If so, that's a very crude measure - you could have a 55/45 Ukrainian/ Russian split and the nearly half Russian speakers would be hidden. Statistics.
Some ould lad on the side of the road said the same when interviewed by someone. Said he'll never speak Russian again and looked heartbroken they had invaded.
So far it doesn't look like this has aged particularly well.
The vote passed at over 80% in favour of duel passports. It happened that way because the majority of the peninsula identify as Russian and not Ukrainian. If that vote hadn't have passed, Russians in the Crimea would have had to use a Ukrainian passport exclusively and they rejected that categorically.
People can ignore these types of items if they wish and run with a certain narrative in their head, but it won't help matters in real life. Put simply, the Crimea is not a straightforward case and ethnicity there is not a clear cut Ukrainian one either.
...
..
Duel passports? That must be the kind of passport Pushkin and Lermontov had ;)
This sudden advance in Kherson has almost flown under the radar but could nearly become a much bigger story than the victory at Lyman.
But yet the majority of Crimeans applied for Ukrainian passports having rejected Russian passports .
, When Kherson falls Crimea is next and it's only going to end one way
75 km in single day,
Kherson is going to fall like everywhere else ,
And to think the situation has stablised, the Russians are in control,No more surrenders , Kherson has stalled and the Ukrainans are suffering huge losses...
Do people actually believe the shite they post
