And Bulls were no great shakes which makes it really worrying
He wasn't the only player that had the opportunity to stake claim. But all that aside that was a sobering affair. There are players that have not reached the heights we might have wished but as a team that performance rates. Just shocking. In all my years and having watched many losing sequences this is up there. Just clueless.
By my count we failed to retain five of our own line outs, scrum was better. Handling and link play was dire, not a scooby what to do in midfield, that bit was actually embarrassing. Mcnulty won't be the only uncomfortable one during the review.
These were always going to be hard matches to squeeze points out of, but the manner of our defeats has been depressing. More to come, presumably, against Leinster. Munster at the Sportsground will be an opportunity.
ps Hate playing against Coetzee, that hard nut has been tormenting us for years!
A bit of respectability on the scoreboard anyway but the Bulls only had 14 for 30 minutes due to 3 sin binnings as well. They were just going through the motions the last 20 minutes there.
Hard to see where any kind of win is coming from. Defence is still awful as predicted but Connacht look very disjointed in attack as well.
Poor McNulty has had another tough day at the office. These 2 games were a good chance for him to stake a claim for the 15 jersey but it hasn't worked out unfortunately.
The ref has been very good IMHO.
At last
Agreed; he's been spot on in the main tonight and is pretty clear with his decisions.
That said, it's been a woeful game. Three yellow cards says a lot about how poor Bulls have been yet they are winning at a canter.
Yeah it's the refs fault we are losing.
He's actually been pretty good IMO. Clear communucation and consistent in his calls, particularly for slowing the ball down.
What attack?
2 more sin bins tonight for the opposition and no score for us.
We are no better against 14 than 15
I'm actually more worried by the complete and utter collapse of our attack. The amount of simple drops and turnovers conceded off first phase has been abysmal.
I said four or five wins for the season a week ago, I think it might be 2/3 at this stage. So bad, so many basic errors, weak defence, non existent attack.
Have no idea what coaching staff are doing and pretty sure they don’t either.
This ref has been appalling, many times they’ve been straight off feet in the breakdown and proceed to win the ball back and nothing called.
Dowling is game but just not powerful enough. Has slipped off multiple clearouts now.
The bulls have been poor tonight.
A decent team would have put 50 on us by now.
It appears as if Connaught aren't even contesting their own line outs.
This is so hard to watch. There may be a few players who can't hack it at this level but the level of cluelessness is instrumental here. This is such a badly coached rugby team.
It's so bad this season that I'd seriously consider the recall of George Hook to head coach as a progressive move.
On course to be 12/21 games since the start of last season Connacht have conceded 30+.
Give the entire coaching staff notice in the coming weeks.
This is painful to watch and definitely to play in, for the boys..
Connacht's defence is so so bad. Wilkins back in charge of it again this season.
Good grief. Basics are awful.
I really don't think any one player will make a difference in this team. The team selection is becoming irrelevant. There are bigger issues that need to be addressed. And this is very clear to see
Grim.
Absolutely shocking half. Once we go past 2 phases we are just going backwards and the play becomes very predictable.
Could do with jack for a few more kicks from hand.
Hawkshaw looked great against us last season but this is a different level and will take time to get used to for him....
Really struggling to see any cohesive game plan in attack or defence. Too static going forward and disjointed in defence.
There just made it too easy for teams to play against them.
This seasons a write off ... At least Joe Joyce will bring a bit of physicality next year !
It always amazes me how scripted and well times Connacht's screw ups are...
The Bulls have been sloppy, way off their best and go in to half time with a 21 point lead.
This season is gonna be an absolute nightmare. If they try to persist with appointing Wilkins, the Connacht CEO and executive staff should be cleaned out. Use that six month clause that’s in every IRFU contract and clean house.
Panic.
