Who said anything about annexation and ethic cleansing..
reading this thread, boards.ie posters would be mobilised immediately to go to war against Russia
I’m confused. Would Ukraine asking to join NATO without the 4 regions not be an admission that they’re giving those regions up?
Why would they do that?
Nobody actually knows what and how
Still, Ukraine's re-affirming of their aspiration to join NATO unerlines the fact that 200-odd days into this invasion, Russia has acheived nothing. And it cost thousands of lives, destruction of towns and cities, families displaced and scattered, and unspeakable horror to acheive this nothing.
I meant in 5 years lets say if today's declaration became the status quo and the shooting and bombing miraculously stopped (not likely)
How many fupping times are people going to drag this trope up
With regard to provocation - there were no nukes in Ukraine but thousands in Russia. Ukraine has a far better case for provocation than Russia. Russia also provoked Ukraine with their agents (Yanukovych & Co.) stirring up separatism in E. Ukraine. So if there is a case for provocation Ukraine has the better case. Not to mention that fact that Russia has been provoking them forever.
At any rate, this provocation thing is mostly an excuse for a war of conquest. Right enough, the west should have been more circumspect with regard to nato expansion, but it all plays neatly into Putin's hands anyhow. He is a Hitler, I don't see it any other way. He has been at war for longer than Hitler and would kill millions if he had to, to realize his ambitions. If Putin really is so concerned about a nuclear attack, invading Ukraine is not going to reduce the tension. He is a little Napoleon with an inferiority complex trying to look like somebody. But nobody ever won a battle with the Grim Reaper and the world will go on and he will be remembered as the nutter who destroyed Russia, because there's no way out for Russia now.
It's ridiculous. It is now entirely populated by Russians and Germany has accepted its eastern borders on the Oder Neiße line as final. I don't understand why people keep bringing it up. East Prussia is gone and not coming back
I am not disagreeing with you.
I am disagreeing with the statement that you can not join NATO cause you have a territorial dispute. It has nothing to do with it.
Well.
Why not
We already have some materials that point to the Western footprint in the organization and implementation of this terrorist act," Sergei Naryshkin of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service told journalists. "In my opinion, the West is doing everything to hide the true perpetrators and organizers of this international terrorist act
Take with a pinch of salt, but no doubt plenty of "see I told you" type posts to follow.
the way Putin has declared war on western technological advancements basically saying Russians dont need this BS technology is amusing, he will gladly mop up all the Chinese rip offs of this tech though going forward
But putin and Russia's moves were not unprovoked and didn't magically appear out of thin air and America had the biggest hand in that
I completely disagree, there was simply no provocation (apart from the usual tit for tat nonsense that has been going on for decades) that could have goaded Putin into a full on push into Europe.
In fact the reality is, it was the Wests inaction, appeasement and tut tut approach that emboldened Putin's monumental stupidity to try and get the old band back together.
What 'proof' do they have?
I didn't even watch the speech nor am I going to. The whole thing is an arrogant charade and only destroys whatever respect people have left for Russia. Pfff...
This is interesting for Putin and his would-be successors.
If or when the heat in Russia is too much to handle, taking out Putin would be the first step toward peace with Ukraine.
Statement from Joe Biden:-
Sims video game discs again ?
Likely none (or loads of made up proof).
Its worth watching a few minutes of to see the audience of largely grumpy looking pension-age men that is the Kremlin's golden circle of trust....
A lot of them are trained in the arts of war....
Finland has now closed it's border to Russian tourists.
Steven segal went swimming and found all the evidence
Eh?
Won't change a thing he's been applying to join Nato for the last 7 months
Reminds me of an 80's cooking segment "and here's some proof we baked earlier".
Stoltenberg will have to come out later with something other than the usual frowns, worried expression, and don't rock the boat answers.
Puttin just kicked a rather large Hail Mary, it's going to have to be fúcked back with interest.
There is a certain irony in the face of Putin's anti Western diatribe in his speech. that probably the most successful periods of Russian history were under the likes of Peter and Catherine, (and to a lesser extent under the WW2 Lease back arrangement and Krustchev thaw post Stalin) when they looked west and embraced Western European ideas and practices. Indeed St Petersburg probably wouldnt exist and Moscow would be still a muddy backwater only for the embrace of western Europe ideas of urban planning and architecture.
And as for now, so much of the bravado and bling of both the propaganda TV shows and the social media gung ho of young Russians owes so much to Western, especially US culture.
As the sayings goes, if you cant beat us , join us....
There is a 0% chance that Ukraine will be joining NATO while they're at war with Russia.
I am not sure what Zelensky is playing at with this statement, unless he's looking for some sort of security guarantee after this war.
