Will my MRPN change when I get a NightSaver (day/night) meter installed?

Hello everyone,

I'm getting a NightSaver (day/night) meter installed and I'm wondering if my MRPN will change.

Some sources say it's tied to the premises, some say it's tied to the premises&meter.

I want to switch to a new supplier right after ESB leaves the house and I'll need my new(?) MRPN for that.

It'd be great if it was tied to the house, not to the house&meter.

It'd make it possible for me to initiate the switching process to the new supplier without waiting (possibly very slow) communication on my new MRPN from my current supplier.

It won't change if there's an existing meter there that's being replaced but it also won't reflect on the provider systems immediately that you now have a day/night meter, I've heard delays ranging from 24-72 hours. Until your MPRN shows as a day/night meter then it's unlikely any provider will be able to sign you up to a nightsaver plan.

The MPRN relates to the address/location of the property that is connected to the grid, and not to the type of meter installed. So there's no reason why it should change just because you install a new meter.

Your MRPN will not change but your Meter Configuration Code (MCC) will change from MCC01 to MCC02 on your account & bill.

Thanks for the extra insight. It sounds I'd just need to monitor the "report meter reading" page and see when it starts letting me reporting day/night readings separately. Then I can be sure all systems are updated.

Out of interest, when you requested a day/night meter did they try to get you to take their Smart Meter instead?

No, they barely even knew what a NightSaver day/night meter was. I hope they didn't order the installation of a coin operated meter instead :)

It turns out we had a NightSaver meter all along. ...but there's this formality that you need to request it from your supplier, then they log a job with ESB, then they come out, press a couple of buttons on the existing meter & scribble down some numbers. ...and voila, your "new meter" is "installed".

Took approx 2 weeks from requesting to completing the 30 second job :) ...now I'm curious how fast will this be reflected on the Web interface.
