Widening of the tax band and help for renters and bills are the main items by the looks of it.
How will this year's budget affect you?
January, the tax year is from January 1 to December 31.
If we had our own currency and the government announced this budget, it would currently be in free fall.
I'd have liked to have seen more prudence and less pro cyclical, inflation chasing measures.
You can't out run inflation.
When is double dole day (3D) ?
Its sad but I knew it was you posting before even seeing the username , based solely of the anti public sector worker bile that you constantly spout. Give yourself a break will you
Jayo and Jacinta pay zero tax as it is, but are after getting a weekly increase of 12 quid each, a 'November bonus', fuel allowance, 600 in electricity credits, probably the bonus mickey money as well. So they are the guts of about €2k better off. And they will still vote for the shinners/PBP, or not vote at all.
Meanwhile, no increase in minimum wage, marginal increases in tax bands, a renters tax credit... not much of an incentive to go out there and work hard is there?
I'm reasonably satisfied as we have no mortgage now, and will benefit from the reduction in the student registration fee. I'm thinking of younger couples on similar incomes. It must be a struggle.
They probably won't vote at all lets be honest, but they'll talk about it.
That's a completely different argument.
Any mention of the 3 or 4 Billion they were setting aside for the Ukrainians? Or was that scrapped?
Thanks for that, much appreciated.

Not forgetting the medical card and extra fuel allowance and double child allowance.
Really sickening seeing my taxes going to these people.
They were already made a complete show of in the Public Pay Talks thread, guess they need somewhere else to repeat themselves over and over and over again.
While I don't really agree with extra taxes on companies in the current climate, I would have loved to have seen a big rise in the take from gambling companies. They get away with murder in this country.
They mentioned that more will qualify for the fuel allowance but I can’t find what the criteria is. Does anyone know?
oops!
It's a laughable but not funny truth alright. The two earners in my household better off by about, 1,350 in band widening. A non working dole couple are up 1,250 on dole payment alone. Add in the double bonus and they have surpassed 2 working people in net benefit. They no doubt get the dole increase soon too while working people get the tax reduction next year....
Rewarding the people who get up the morning? My arse..
Where's the incentive for the dole recipients to get back to work?
There definitely should be a bigger tax on gambling. Agree with that.
Also, I wouldnt fund that industry at all. Let the gambling companies do that.
Would someone on 21k not be better off packing it in and getting the time back? I think this is why hotels and other minimum wage gigs can’t get staff like they used to. HAP far outweighs bothering working 20-30 hours for min wage, especially when you factor in the value of your own time.
Indeed. I'm all for supporting the horse, greyhound etc industry because it's a huge part of our culture but these gambling companies are benefitting the most and should be targeted directly. Put the money into a fund to help people with gambling problems, it's a massive issue that has been quietly growing over the last 20 years.
You would honestly want to be stupid to work full time for min wage over the dole.
You got 50 cent of craft cider and if your a woman of a cert age cheaper HRT 😉
Or is it only of use for people on the dole for more than 18 months.
What message does that send.
oo
Why?
Not everyone is bone idle.
100%
I think in the posters case they are home owners and parents so I see it’s a little different to a renter.
Even on my salary and being a renter, getting all that time back and having someone else pay my rent looks really attractive - especially if one of us works but we pretend we don’t live together .
Why? What woukd that accomplish. We need more green cars on the roads not less.
Listen its true. From time to time I work on developments like these.
New council properties complete with HP, Solar and the odd one or two with ufh.
Not all council properties have them but quite a few now due to minimum building reg standards.
This sounds like a good thing
That's all great in a fantasy land of a great public transport system and people not having to travel to work.
"In his Budget speech, Minister Donohoe said, "There are so many people who work hard, but whose earnings push them outside of access to social welfare benefits. We need to help them too, we need to put money back into their pockets."
We should help them too 🙄
How are they not the first focus of every budget since that cohort pays for everything in the bleedin' country.
The Average industrial wage is €45,760...why is the average wage anywhere near the 40% Highest tax bracket. Bloody Bizarre.
