Widening of the tax band and help for renters and bills are the main items by the looks of it.
How will this year's budget affect you?
You had a crude example of someone on 25k (taken from a tax calculator) in the thread. Before today, they were handing over 12 percent of gross to the exchequer. You can't take much more from someone like that, and I'm not sure what you'd achieve in doing so.
Not sure why I had that 3k a year figure in my head in relation to the cards?
Their total tax take is quite low compared to many other EU countries.
And yes, you will get something as there seems to be loads of giveaways.
Fags up 50c. Highest in the EU.
Smokes up 50c
It may be the guess of what you'll save having a full card for a family (doctors visits for multiple people, prescriptions, glasses, A&E, USC reduction). Its not what a GP gets anyway!
Lots of can-kicking going on too. Tax reforms, etc...
That's the whole point of a budget.
I make it €3.66, could be wrong though.
This benefits middle and high earners too, yes.
That's an absolutely mental stat: 33% of the country's income is made up of 10 companies and 500k employees.
Who sits behind Pascal. That hasn’t looked up from his phone once?
well, so far i can not say I see any surprise.
Fair enough but in Germany, they manage to take more than double that from its workers and they seem to be going Ok..
The elephant in the room totally ignored in this budget.
Homes? We fcuking need houses man! People on €50k not being able to afford a house is a scandal.
Yeap, its basically multinational and those who work in them that keep this country going.
Reduction in the price of newspapers, sure you'll have saved for a gaff in no time
In 1995 the price was one of the great motivators for me to give up and instead have an extra trip per year 😁
One step closer to a spree.
Did I hear correctly, 0% vat now for all period products ? Good move, was hoping to hear the same for condoms etc.
He cut the vat on nicotine patches too, with another 50c on the smokes people might need them, those patches weren't that cheap form what I recall when I quit years ago. Wonder how much they are losing in excise to the e cigs nowadays?
And what's with the 10% tax on concrete pouring and blocks?
10% levy on build blocks during the worst housing crisis in a century? What?
Absolutely disgraceful that the dole spongers get rewarded again. I’m part of the squeezed middle paying for the handouts. Far too much for students, they should be incentivised to work.
What is the reasoning behind this?
I thought they were trying to encourage more building etc
“10% levy introduced on concrete blocks and pouring concrete”
Caught that - a mental move, but I guess it's like the insurance levey after Quinn went smack. The whole trade and their customers now pays for the fcuk up.
That tax band should have went up to €45k and a fiver for the doleheads.
There is no excuse to be unemployed in this country for more than a month.
I assume that’s to promote timber frame houses? ( has the mark of the Greens all over it)
Fuel allowance get €400 for Christmas.
Is that 600 just on the leccie? I've gas heating. I'd rather it on that.
You didn't think 100% Mica redress was going to be paid out of general taxation did you?
There are two sides to every ledger.
If it provokes the building industry sector to get its house in order, it will be worth it. Will be interesting to hear Tom Parlon's reaction later.
And Hormone Replacement Therapies too. Far more important than nicotine products I'm sure you'll agree.
