No, it doesn't matter
well we're committed now!
called to cancel - was offered 1gb broadband @ 40euro for 6 months followed by 80euro for 6 months. works out about 60 a month. no tv/phone.
I WFH so broadband speed/reliability is important for me. Plus I can claim back some of the costs as a tax credit.
I never really understood this logic. Very few people require speeds that high. We have 250 Mb and two people working from home (at times). I have never experienced an issue. We would both be on Zoom/Teams all day but software like this only uses 3->4 Mbps and really its the 50 Mb upload speed that limits you. I would not pay the extra.
you're lucky.. we also have kids who play games like roblox/watch netflix at times while we're working and often have connection issues - particularly when roblox is on..
None of that would add up to needing 1 Gb broadband but if you're happy to pay it for the peace of mind you wont have issues, fair enough.
Rang vm up as was out of contract they've moved me from 250mb to 500mb for €35per month so happy with that
That's a result. Im out of contract but have Siro going live soon. I'll be holding off. Don't really want to change but I'm paying €70 a month for 500mb broadband. That can't be justified. They will have to offer me something close to the Siro pricing for me to stay.
Is that for the year?
Not exactly, you've 14 days to cancel.
Anyone had any issues with cancelling one in your name and signing up in wife's or partner's name as a new customer?
Nope. Hasn't been an issue for us and we pay from same joint account.
Nope ha e been doing it for about 5 years now most recently on February. Only difference now is they charge a €50 activation fee.
Still worth changing as we pay €79pm for gigabyte bb, tv and phone whereas the roll off rate after the last deal expired was €119pm.
Do you leave a gap between the closing of one account and opening of the other? Or do you let them overlap to some degree?
I usually have them overlap by a few days so there is no loss of service.
How does that work out with keeping your home telephone number?
I don't have a home telephone so it doesn't affect me. Not sure how you can switch ove, maintain service, and keep your number.
Hi, I have been paying €71 a month for 250gb broadband only for the last few years so I am out of contract. I'm going to cancel and sign up in my husband's name today to get 500gb for €40 a month for 12 months plus a one4all gift card worth €75.
Thanks for all the information, I'm going to do this for my parents too. Does anyone know how they can keep their landline number if they open a new account in another name?
we got our call back today, but we've signed up with vodafone SIRO now so hopefully that turns out a good service
Am I right in saying that an installer has to come out for upgrades to 500mb from 250mb??
No. They'll just send you a new router.
Mmm, they are insisting there is no option for self install in this case.
Maybe they want to switch you to fiber.
Hard to think of another reason, if you already have 250mb.
That's odd, is the system very old? Maybe they want to run a new length of cable into the house just be certain you can get the speed.
Pretty new to the estate. Been a customer for about 3 years on 250mb.
Cancelled. Signed up for 500mb as new customer online. Didn't see any option for the self install or red house option so presumed self install the default.
Then get an sms with date / time of install. Rang to cancel this as we'd prefer to self install on our own time and told by 2 different agents that it's not coming up as an option. Was gonna just ask the engineer to deliver the router and head on but now thinking there may be a need for a configuration update to set the new 500mb speed or something.
.
found it
3 weeks since I cancelled over the phone. They may have called my bluff as they haven't rang me yet, they did send a text asking to ring if there was anything they could do to keep me. Should I bite the bullet and ring them first?
No harm in giving them a ring it might save you the 50 activation fee as a new customer.
Same here, my contract ends on the 8th and I just noticed on the TV advertisement that their "sale" ends on the 5th. Is it possible to sign up for a new account in a different name before my current contract ends? Have two accounts at the same address which would overlap by 3 days or so.
Also this has been asked before, how do you go about keeping your telephone number if signing up with a new account at the same address?
They have waived the Activation Fee at the minute.
