I bought one of these a few months ago and it's after coming down by about 5 quid since. Works grand. Shipping included and arrived fairly fast
yes, but it is not compatible with a 2.5” SATA is what I mean, and I suspect you know this.
Think this is a slightly better deal Crucial BX500 1TB CT1000BX500SSD1-Up to 540 MB/s (Internal SSD, 3D NAND, SATA, 2.5 Inch) , Black for about the same money currently £61 (sterling) plus the extra Irish VAT.
(Edit> Currently €70.45 inc irish tax)
I have three of these the oldest 480GB one has been running 12 hours a day for the last 2 years.
There is also a free version of the Acronis software for cloning this drive available - https://www.acronis.com/id-id/promotion/CrucialHD-download/ .
they use M.2 so they’re incompatible with a SATA drive of any kind
M.2 is SATA...
Ok thanks
I think it works well with that.
I just stuck a spare SSD drive 128Gb in an external exclosure. I didn't bother with the internal drive. Kids didn't seem to notice any performance difference. Swapped it for a 2TB traditional hard drive. Other than the extra space they didn't notice. I just moved the games off the internet to the external.
If you're a gamer you probably will notice.
You’re better off getting an external one. They are not easy to change at all. If you’re technically minded it’s still going to be a pain in the arse but it’s up to yourself.
id just get an external HDD/SSD.
Xbox one s
Which Xbox?
you can change the hard drive in an Xbox One, but it’s a fcuking nightmare to do and you need to format and install the necessary softwares via a PC, the Xbox isn’t capable.
as for the Xbox Series, they use M.2 so they’re incompatible with a SATA drive of any kind. Besides, you’re better off just to get the expansion yoke.
Not familiar with these at all but would it be any good with an Xbox? Storage is maxed out.
A good price alright, I'm sure it will do fine in a home PC. I just picked up a Crucial BX500 1TB drive for a fiver or so less (€69), will pop it in a USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive:

Used in Office machines. During Covid the PC may have been on 24/7. Generally it was the chipset error but most times the disks were unreadable. Not an issue for Office PC and all the data is networked, so just a reinstall on new hardware when it failed.
Maybe worth a go in home PC's or laptops but as with all Hard disks (SSD or Spinning disks) have a good backup.
SSDs don't typically fail gracefully. Note also that it's SATA 3, so speeds are around the 500MB/s range, not the multi GB rates the NVME drives will give
Still, it's a nice price
What were you doing with them?
I've always found PNY a decent brand.
when they failed was it still possible to read from them?
Hi,
Just so you are aware. I previsionly got the 480GB version of these and out of 5, 3 failed and were replaced under warranty (3 years). Maybe the 1TB might be more reliable.
