More permeability works from the council, very welcome indeed. Have to be honest, they are playing a blinder with this program of works. I know I'm usually the first to criticize them but credit where credit is due in this case.

It really can't be overstated how important works like these are in terms of accessibility and permeability and are a vital component of making a walkable locality.

No mention of roadworks on the motorway this week. The delays have been long. I don't understand how they couldn't do these works in off peak hours especially when Martin Roundabout is in the state its in as well.

You are right. That looks like it. Taken from the Lenaboy Park side. It was bugging me I could not figure it out cos it looked familiar. I used it probably once I say; could be 15 years ago.
The Waterside/ Woodquay, they need to remove 1 onstreet car parking in spot in front of the laneway entrance and place a family of bollards onto the street itself here.

Yep, one car space sized yellow hatched box and a couple of bollards would make it much more useable. One of the cycle buses uses that as part of their daily route and it's very difficult trying to get the kids safely from that path onto Riverside when there's a car parked across the exit.
Just came across this one on Twitter as an even more pointless impediment from Galway City Council.
It's in Ballinfoile. Does nothing to keep out scramblers or other undesirable vehicles but seriously inconveniences or completely blocks double buggies, wheelchairs etc. That then reminded me of a similarly pointless one in Rosshill Woods carpark.
It's almost as if the Council bought a job lot of these gates and felt compelled to install them anywhere they could, whether it made sense or not.

Why is a cycle bus using a pedestrian pathway?
I'd be interested in any source you have that this laneway is classified as an exclusively pedestrian pathway rather than an urban permeability link?

Ya its small thing but would make a big difference. That part of Woodquay is very nice, be great when the Old Railway Bridge is converted into a Greenway across the Corrib.
A cycle bus is a great way to get kids to school safely. Here we see a convoy of 40+.
Imagine how many more kids would be cycling to school if they didn't need to be in a convoy

There are vastly more two-wheelers on footpaths than four-wheelers.
In the quoted case, the pedestrian was hit by a car, but only suffered minor injures. I reckon there's more to the story.

Have you considered the vastly more momentum of the four wheelers arising from the vastly more weight, resulting in vastly higher risk of serious injury, and vastly more cracked pavements, leading to risk of trips for pedestrians?
Here's a question for the thread, how many kissing gates do you think there are in Galway?
I've created a map of all the ones I've found so far (not finished) and I'll post it up once done, but I was curious as to how many people think there are in the city.
This constant whinging and badgering about traffic and private cars will only serve to further entrench pushback from ordinary people who are time poor, just trying to live their lives in the City. It will further entrench Council intransigence too, I mean they can't do right for doing wrong, so why would they bother doing anything at all.
The likes of this post from certain vigilante social media accounts say it all. They harass people just trying to get on with their day and then post this, grassing up someone about a "non-standard reg", which couldn't possibly have any bearing on road safety or promoting walking and cycling.
Of all the twitter accounts you could have used, you choose the one that shows the utter contempt drivers have for anyone outside of a car in Galway city 🤦♂️ 😂
You are concerned with that account flagging non-compliance to license plate specifications while everyone else is concerned with being able to walk safely on footpaths and use crossings without risk. Thats not to mention the impacts flagged by that account, on the mobility of PWD and the elderly

Couldn't even guess, into the 100's easily I'd imagine. There's one you may or may not know of. It's opposite ATU, at the entrance to the pitch in the Dublin Rd. Used by a lot of parents with kids in Gaelscoil Dara every day and it's the tightest one I've seen, can barely squeeze a child and their bike through. Only thing I'm unsure of is who 'owns' it. Think it might be ATU's as the pitch is theirs.
Is there scope to put in a cable car for pedestrians?
You could run one from UCG down to the Cathedral via the Hospital and into Eyre Square?
Just a thought.
I would throw one from Ballybane across the harbour as well, even as far as Salthill.
It is probably too good an idea to catch on though, most of the best ones are.
