It really is incredible that the OC and the Deputy OC of the Azov regiment as well as the international contingent, some of whom were sentenced to death have been released today. Very high profile POW’s swapped in a deal arranged and supported by Saudi Arabia. In a bizarre day of extraordinary news that is right up there. All extremely high profile people.
Has there been anything said of who was released on the Russian side?

You're not seeing an alternative because you see the (literal) nuclear option as an absolute inevitability once Russia lays claim to the land and the Ukrainians continue to fight for it. But it's not. It would be such an extreme and unprecedented action that it just can't be seen as inevitable, no matter what Putin and his regime say. It very possible (and I would say more likely) that even after the sham referenda and the sham sovereignty grab, the war will continue on as a conventional war. Ukraine has already bombed Crimea - "Russian territory" - and the nukes did not rain down on Kiev.

I can hear the cogs of the best minds in Russia trying to work this one out. No, it’s gone silent already. They’ve given up and now accept that denazification of Azov wasn’t a goal. Their minds were too weak and they lapped up the latest propaganda.
It has become clear, from Putin's speech, why they attacked the nuclear power plant. They blame Ukraine and the west for the attacks and for 'nuclear terrorism' so they can justify their own use of nuclear weapons.
I wonder these high profile guys falling out of windows each week are just to keep his top table in line..
But there's a lot more to the repercussions of a nuclear attack than "what will the people on the street in Russia make of it?", and Russia knows that very well.
The West and NATO have been holding their cards very close to their chests. Russia have been publicly shouting that they hold a Royal Flush, but everyone knows that they've bluffed every other hand they've played, and Russia knows that. I mean, Russian MPs and media have been claiming that they could obliterate the UK in a nuclear attack and the rest of NATO wouldn't even respond. That's all well and good as delusional domestic propaganda, but there's no way that its an actual military belief or the basis of any strategy.
Putin would want to pick up a history book in order to learn, or remind himself if he forgot, that creating this climate of fear may create the illusion of stability, but all you're doing is creating a wellspring of hidden resentment that will reach critical mass sooner or later. It's one of the things that makes dictatorships inherently brittle.
Thats not to even mention the question of their capabilities. Do we really trust them to execute a nuclear strike, I'd say there's at least a 50% chance of failure.
I think this big ego problem is an inversion of a huge inferiority complex.
Who are they trying to convince? If it's certain people in Russia, just tell them NATO used nuclear weapons and save the bother. Everyone else knows the story.
