You're not seeing an alternative because you see the (literal) nuclear option as an absolute inevitability once Russia lays claim to the land and the Ukrainians continue to fight for it. But it's not. It would be such an extreme and unprecedented action that it just can't be seen as inevitable, no matter what Putin and his regime say. It very possible (and I would say more likely) that even after the sham referenda and the sham sovereignty grab, the war will continue on as a conventional war. Ukraine has already bombed Crimea - "Russian territory" - and the nukes did not rain down on Kiev.
Putin is up **** creek without a paddle, it's only a matter of time now before he is "retired".
It's a bit mental we live in an age where a global leader can just casually threaten a nuclear apocalypse and we just go normally about our day.
Crimea which is technically regarded as Russian, has been bombed several times
Bloke is politically on thin ice, when these new recruits start being drafted and slaughtered,it will cause internal revolt,
Irelands independence was ultimately kicked off due to potential for conscription, people don't like to be forced into armies, particularly ones suffering massive losses
It really is incredible that the OC and the Deputy OC of the Azov regiment as well as the international contingent, some of whom were sentenced to death have been released today. Very high profile POW’s swapped in a deal arranged and supported by Saudi Arabia. In a bizarre day of extraordinary news that is right up there. All extremely high profile people.
Has there been anything said of who was released on the Russian side?
Maybe Medvedchuk perhaps
I can't believe that anyone thinks the West will say - "oh he's drawn a new border, fair enough, we're out"
It won't happen
What might happen though, is that Putin's wolf crying becomes real and Russia really does get threatened - he's sailing close
This thread attracts some true oddballs
Nothing in proven, words are just words
Nonsense..
But you're completely ignoring the practical side. The war isn't happening in Putin's head, so what he accepts or not is not the basis for the reality. The outcome of the war will be a matter of physical resources - men and arms. If Russia are pushed out of the Ukrainian territory occupied since February, and held out, then that is clearly a Ukrainian victory, whether Putin "accepts" it or not. Even better victory if they get some or all of the land occupied before February back too. It's the physical control of the land that counts, not what Putin decides. The UK won the Falklands War because they got control of the islands back after the invasion. The Argentinians still claim the islands - but that doesn't mean the British didn't win and win decisively.
I think you're giving too much credit to the power of Putin's ego. It can't warp reality.
It doesnt matter if he accepts it or not, if enough pressure is a applied, He will be killed or removed or Russia itself will fail. This could go on for ten years, so be it. And the threat of nuclear is pointless, if the west were to back down due to the threat of nuclear war, then they might aswell join the Russian federation, they would have no credibility, Russia and every other nuclear power could bully the west for the rest of time. They cannot be bullied by nuclear threats, they might aswell kill themselves. They have no choice but to fight a nuclear war if it is necessary. Everyone knows this and that is why it will never happen.
What was proven not to be the case ?
Seems the theme of the day is downplay the protests big up nukes
There is always C: Russian army gets beaten back to the 2013 border and doesn't come back. Looks like a long slog but the tide has turned.
If over 1000 have been detained then clearly a far greater numbers took part in those protests.
Lots of people suggested that Putin's plans would backfire.
Is Russia holding back or something? Where will this "hell" come from?
Ye may go back in the recording of this.
Nah just nahh
They should go to Ukraine and surrender to international authorities.
Surely when those 3 parts of Ukraine are taken by Russia, the US and Europe will pressure or persuade Ukraine from retaliating ?
If Ukraine retaliate, Russia can invade... are the US and Europe going to do something then ?
Wars are generally between opposing parties that will not accept defeat, we will see who blinks first, from the looks of it Putin is blushing already.
I can think of one jeep driving f**er in Clane for whom I'd be happy to buy a one way ticket back to the motherland.
Are you saying that the war is actually unwinnable for Ukraine, simply because Putin has it in his head that he won't accept defeat - even if he's actually being defeated in real life? Can anyone do that? Just declare that you refuse to accept defeat, and therefore become invulnerable to defeat, despite the actual outcome that you suffer?
I think Ukraine are very wary of commiting too many soldiers to this front, it seems it has had a very heavy toll on both sides. From early reports of the intial exchanges , Russia where causing huge problems with superior weapons and drones.
Ukraine needs the most advanced tech as soon as possible, hopefully the west/NATO are analysing whats been happening their and can help them in this regard, it may take more time and training, so we should be prepared for things to move very slowly on the Kherson front.
A bit longer on this one. You can almost see it in that third man's face. He's thinking "Will you shut up. You fool."
And then it cuts to the two being carted off.
Word circulating on twitter now that those being arrested are being drafted at the police station. 1984 esque.
Fox News 🤣
Come back Twitter all is forgiven
Fortunately, you haven't a clue what will happen.
What we know already Moscow does not have the weapons for Putin's news conscripts. Ukraine is winning the war no matter what Moscow's mouthpieces say.
Third fella anyway it looks like he's had a serious realisation seeing the other two carted off.
(So many camera phones in Moscow and St.Petersburg. Seconds later it's on the net.)
All the yellow vests. I guess are press. And pure Russian, indifferent.
