Real carers should be looked after and paid alot more. It is a really tough job and it is in my view a 24 hr 7 day week job. These people need more to help.

However I know lots of people who are claiming carers for looking after elderly parents that they dont actually care for and dont actually need care! This to me is wrong. GPs are doing a disservice by signing forms saying the person needs care when they don't

This is something that really annoys me.

That would have been like my mother, who managed to care for herself right up to the end aged 89. My role was just enhancing her quality of life. However she wouldn’t have been able to live by herself either. Therefore I got the Dependent Relative Allowance, was worth about €100 a year to me, I used it to bring her places for enjoyment.

The industry is on its knees partially (of its own doing) because people are fed up with the price gouging that goes on in Irish restaurants/bars.
