Your local electrician might be worth asking. They sometimes act as sales men for companies and would be handy to get on to if you had a breakdown/emergency.

Called to a dairy neighbour today for a chat and a look around.
He’s milking 200+ cows thru 2 robots. They installed them in 2016 and he reckons the “cluster” is due an upgrade now to a newer camera. That was my understanding anyway, so forgive the layman’s language. But overall, he’s very happy with them. It’s an impressive set up, and all under the one roof.
I won’t say I’d consider a robot now if I was to go milking, but if I did, would 80-ish cows justify one robot?
200 fair going for 2 robots, is he calving Ayr so have a certain amount dry every month? . Some lads get on fine with em others don't, if a chance came to add more cows they are not flexible and having one means no backup if it goes down for any period. You'd prob have a decent 20 unit in for the same money and be milked and washed up in under the hour.
Would go see as many as you can and outside of salesmen if possible and see from there, would gibe a better idea
Indoor or grazing system. I reckon full time indoor system will be eventually gone. Some milk companies in England will only pay a premium milk price for outdoor grazing milk
Would the electricity bill be sky high with all the machines going all the time. washing, detergents ?
Was looking at incalf heifer prices, is there much value at 1300. Would it be better to give a bit more after calving, or maybe the same if we get a hungry spring. I was looking for a few a lot of cows are getting old
On your question 60 - 70 cows is about as many as you could milk on 1 robot depending on yield, you could always buy a second hand one if you were thinking of going that route.
Lisduff have a sale coming up. You'll get quality there. Don't mind the price.

Re electricity costs: I can only assume they’re higher if the machine is on all the time but maybe others on here know more about it

Cheap stock Vs 1300 for something off a stock bull.
There is an amount of fr/ho incalf heifers on dd they don't seem to be many showing up sold.
I bought top of the range JEX heifers, all in calf to sexed semen and all calving in February, €1700 delivered from Dunmanway
Given the feeding in the last month or so lads may be reducing stock that would be sold anyway before winter to get a cover built and save feed. If you have the space/ feed prob worth buying now. Will prob look at calved stock myself in the spring and cut the late calvers depending on how things go
The thing about buying now is they can settle to your farm and the bugs on it before they come under pressure with their first calving.theres alot happening in the spring without introducing a disease risk at a key time in the herd
