Not really a good episode, but it is on tonight on Legend.
Well, we've had the Crazyhorse and that's named after Native American Cheiften. But I suppose that's a ship name rather than class.
Then again, Miranda? Name and a class. And we have had a Ross class vessel.
We've also had Armstrong, Engle, Gagarain
The difference is, Crazyhorse aside, they're all last names that's not unusual the Hood is named after a Royal Navy admiral too or named after a ship that was named after an admiral at least. But Akira is a first name if you use the common English speaking name order, hence the USS Steve.
Awe I like it. It's a classic. We get the classic Bones quote
"I am a Doctor not a builder"
"I am a Doctor not a plasterer"
I am sure he says one of them in it lol.
Miranda is a Uranus moon.
Miranda is also a girl's name. I literally know of two girls named Miranda.
USS Nog? Ajax?
USS Thomas Paine
USS Drake
Is Hermes a first or last name, I forget.
Few named after deities alright like Hera, Apollo, Vesta
I get the surname thing, but I think I'd like to see a USS Steve in Lower decks. Seems like a Lower Decks thing. In fact, now I really want a USS Steve.
Looking at ship lists, Places and surnames seem to be the top two.
There were a few HMS Mirandas, it's a last name too, and it's the name of several places. Ajax was a classical Greek mythylogical Hero, Hermes was a god, they don't have last names like Nog and Crazyhorse so they're an exception.
The USS Steve took me a few minutes to come up with because all the other English first names I could think of were also surnames.
EDIT: Come to think of it the NS do name their ships after Irish girls first names but that's weird too
And Aer Lingus do saints names I think.
Bricklayer
Yes I seen it. Thank you. Knew it was something like that lol.
There was a few good quotes in that episode.
Yep - all the moons of Uranus are named after characters from Shakespeare. Miranda is from The Tempest.
@AMKC @JayRoc
"I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer!"
"You're a healer. There's a patient. That's an order." - McCoy and Kirk, on treating the Horta
And he healed it by plastering a silicon compound on the wound.

Another Not Very Good Episode 😄
So I am doing a similitude watch. I think that's what it's called. I am watching the TOS episode "Balance of Terror" and the SNW episode that's based on it at the same time.
Just need to remember which SNW episode it was lol.
The last one
The final of the season,
Thank you both. Yes I kind of guessed it was that one.
So worth doing. The Asteroid part with Commander Hanson on it is nearly word for word exactly the same just in TOS he is sitting down and in SNW he is standing up and the communication is done better in SNW with breakages in the words etc.
SNW definitely done the attack better more realistic even.
It's funny watching the TOS one it looks pale in comparison to how they done it on SNW.
Even some of the words between Pike and Spock and Kirk and Spock on the bridge are the exact same. Whoever done the SNW episode really done an excellent job getting that right. It's bang on.
Although I still think TOS got the revelation about Spock and the Romulans being very similar better. There is nothing wrong with the way it's done in SNW it's just the camera zoom in on both the Romulan ship and on Spock on the bridge of the Enterprise and the reactions I think on the TOS Enterprise are all better than in SNW. That could just be me do. Some people might prefer the way it is in SNW and maybe even think its the better of the two but they are both brilliant in there own ways.
I hope if there is ever a Blu-Ray release of SNW that the TOS episode this episode of SNW is based on can be in it too. That would be very cool.
The slingshot around the sun, where they didn't so much actually slingshot around the sun, as... more just sort of clumsily turned around? There were some really dodgy (lack of) FX back then, but hey, it's 50 years ago, I guess.
It's a classic TOS episode tonight.
The Klingons turn up for the first time.
"Errand of Mercy"
Is the episode.
Has a role in the episode.
The Alternative Factor is – I’d argue – the weakest episode of a remarkably strong first season of Star Trek. While some would consider it one of the worst episodes the show ever produced, I’m reluctant to commit to that sort of certainty. ~~ Link
Tonight's episode on Legend.
The City on the Edge of Forever (episode), tomorrow night.
Unlike "The Way to Eden" and "Spock's Brain" this episode commits the cardinal sin of being simply boring. It's up there (down there?) with my least favourites.
Confession: I've not watched City on the Edge of Forever in years ... and it's cos I kinda hate it. Maybe I need to watch it again, with older eyes but at the time just never, ever enjoyed "Kirk finds romance" stories. Indeed I much preferred episodes like (the apparently maligned) Devil in the Dark.
The whole "maligned" thing was a joke. It's widely recognised as one of if not THE best episode of TOS. Along with the above, to be fair. So if you hate one of them....
Cool if it's a joke: TBH, I'd be first to admit I'm not a whole lot sure what episodes are considered The Best of the Best; City... gets name-dropped a lot 'cos to be fair, it co-starred Joan Collins & was written by Harlan Ellison. As I sit here and type it's actually a couple o' decades since I actually watched TOS.
TOS is actually my favourite, even though I was a kid of the Next Gen/DS9 era. I still love both of those but there's something about the original series for me.
As far as favourite episodes go, I've always been partial to The Enemy Within and A Piece of the Action, and my favourite is probably The Conscience of the King; none of them are fan favourites.
I'll often put on Spock's Brain or The Way to Eden for the craic, widely regarded as the worst episodes ever. Great fun. So, so, so sixties.
I'm assuming that the above is Season 2 Premiere that is airing tonight on Legend. Episode numbers are out of sync?
