This isn't an organised retreat, they are literally running away without putting up much resistance and leaving large supplies of arms behind. They don't appear to have set up any secondary defensive lines. The sense of shock in pro-Russian quarters is obvious and palpable.
So this isn't what a plan looks like. It looks like a major strategic collapse because that's exactly what it is. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

People keep calling them fascist yet we often see Ukrainian forces capturing hammer and sickle flags, Putin repeatedly has spoken about how the end of the Soviet Union was a disaster, every one of his senior political and military leadership have been members of the Communist party.
Putin has not gone full Communist on Ukraine yet, he is no Lenin, or Stalin.
Don't downplay their crimes by labeling them as their little brother fascism.

A couple of days ago, there were some on here spinning the line that Zelensky had acted aginst advice of his generals and ordered a counteroffesive well before they were ready or equipped for it and that it was going to be a disaster and that they would be crushed. More Russian inspired offal.
Zelensky is amazing, he scarcely puts a foot wrong and continues to be a leader of historical renown. No praise is high enough.

Yes this is the risk and the fear but for all our differences on this thread I think we all agree Ukraine can't back off now, it has to keep pushing, and I just hope civilians can be sheltered safely while this is going on

We don't know that, it was president Zelenskys failure to deliver on campaign promises and control the nationalists that bought about this. Of course Presdent Putins and his nationalists ambitions are the prime reason for the war. Whatever the outcome, the war also marks a political failure of president Zelensky.
